Book Synopsis Sustainable Rural Development by : Mary Emery

Download or read book Sustainable Rural Development written by Mary Emery. This book was released on 2016-03-16. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together several systems-level approaches to the consideration of the interaction of livelihood choices, natural resource management and participatory action research on sustainable development. By focusing on these approaches to community change, the volume hopes to encourage readers to consider how they might adopt methods such as Sustainable Livelihoods Approach (SLA), Community Capitals Framework (CCF) and Participatory Action Research (PAR) in their own research, practice and teaching. Thus, this volume will engage readers in reflection about the importance of systems-level approaches that address poverty from the perspective of the poor, natural resource management that maintains the resource for future generations, and the engagement of local people in designing and implementing, and thus owning, strategies that address equity as well as economic security and the environment. This book was originally published as a special issue of Community Development.

Book Synopsis Natural Resource Management And Livelihood Security by : Ram Krishna Mandal

Download or read book Natural Resource Management And Livelihood Security written by Ram Krishna Mandal. This book was released on 2013. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the growth of development processes, the environmental condition deteriorates aggressively and thereby the livelihood pattern of rural tribal people is continuously under changing. This poses a great threat to sustainable development of natural resources. The modern development brings many improvements in the quality of life and at the same time it invites some negative impacts to the environment. Globalisation is not itself responsible for these failures of open market economics. Indeed, if we could identify an alternative and sustainable economic model, then its globalisation would become desirable. Meanwhile, poorer section of the population will tend to be the losers when confronted with scarcity of food, water and natural resources. Good governance of globalisation is once again the only avenue for equitable management of its risks.

Book Synopsis Redefining Diversity and Dynamics of Natural Resources Management in Asia, Volume 2 by : Ganesh Shivakoti

Download or read book Redefining Diversity and Dynamics of Natural Resources Management in Asia, Volume 2 written by Ganesh Shivakoti. This book was released on 2016-09-01. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Redefining Diversity and Dynamics of Natural Resources Management in Southeast Asia, Volumes 1-4 brings together scientific research and policy issues across various topographical areas in Asia to provide a comprehensive overview of the issues facing the region. Upland Natural Resources and Social Ecological Systems in Northern Vietnam, Volume 2, provides chapters on natural resource management in northern Vietnam tied together by the concept that participatory local involvement is needed in all aspects of natural resource management. The volume examines planning for climate change, managing forestland, alleviating food shortages, living with biodiversity, and assessing the development projects and policies being implemented. Without the involvement of local communities, households, and ultimately individual people, the needed action will not be effectively taken. Upland Natural Resources and Social Ecological Systems in Northern Vietnam, Volume 2, goes beyond just Northern Vietnam to address the issue of transboundary natural resource management—an issue that Vietnam is dealing with in its relations with northern neighbor, China, and western neighbor, Laos—as well as the transboundary water governance between Pakistan and India in south Asia, with the hope that some of the lessons learned may one day be useful in the case of Vietnam and its neighbors. Provides a multi-disciplinary case study into a complex environmental situation involving government institutions, planning, and practices, using northern Vietnam as the focus Covers the issues of natural resource management and biodiversity in depth using international case studies Provides examples of measuring the potential climate change impacts on food security in agricultural regions Examines topics such as planning for climate change, managing forestland, alleviating food shortages, living with biodiversity, and assessing development projects and policies
