Book Synopsis Reinforcement of Timber Elements in Existing Structures by : Jorge Branco

Download or read book Reinforcement of Timber Elements in Existing Structures written by Jorge Branco. This book was released on 2021-04-30. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By presenting the work of the RILEM Technical Committee 245-RTE, the book provides an overview of the existing techniques for the reinforcement of timber elements, joints and structures. It consists of two parts: part I examines state-of-the-art information on reinforcement techniques, summarizes the current status of standardization, and covers STS, GiR, FRP and nanotechnology. In part II several applications of reinforcement are discussed: these include traditional structures, traditional timber frame walls, light-frame shear walls, roofs, floors, and carpentry joints. The book will benefit academics, practitioners, industry and standardization committees interested in the reinforcement of existing timber elements, joints and structures.

Book Synopsis Reinforcement of Timber Structures by : Annette M. Harte

Download or read book Reinforcement of Timber Structures written by Annette M. Harte. This book was released on 2015. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is a publication developed within the European network COST Action FP 1101 "Assessment, reinforcement and monitoring of timber structures". The main aim of the report is to summarise the current and emerging methods that are available to repair or enhance the structural performance of timber structures and to provide guidance to the use of these methods. The report is organised in two main parts. In Part I, the different structural elements and subsystems that make up our buildings are considered. These include beams, floors, columns, shear walls and connections. The possible failure modes are described and the appropriate reinforcement strategies for each case are presented, including consideration of cultural heritage issues. The reinforcement of buildings to increase their resistance to seismic actions is also included in this part. The focus of Part II is on reinforcement materials and methods. These include adhesive systems, mechanical fasteners such as glued-in rods and self-tapping screws, fibre reinforced polymer laminates and bars, and emerging nano-structured materials. The properties of these materials, their methods of application and relevant design rules are described. The report provides details not only of the latest research findings related to the reinforcement of timber structures, but most importantly how these methods can be best used in practice. Many examples are given of the implementation of the various reinforcement methods. Because of this, the report will be of interest not only to the research community, relevant standardisation bodies, and policy makers but also to practitioners, representatives of the timber construction industry and product developers in the sector of reinforcement technologies.

Book Synopsis Timber Engineering by : Sven Thelandersson

Download or read book Timber Engineering written by Sven Thelandersson. This book was released on 2003-03-14. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Timber construction is one of the most prevalent methods of constructing buildings in North America and an increasingly significant method of construction in Europe and the rest of the world. Timber Engineering deals not only with the structural aspects of timber construction, structural components, joints and systems based on solid timber and engineered wood products, but also material behaviour and properties on a wood element level. Produced by internationally renowned experts in the field, this book represents the state of the art in research on the understanding of the material behaviour of solid wood and engineered wood products. There is no comparable compendium currently available on the topic - the subjects represented include the most recent phenomena of timber engineering and the newest development of practice-related research. Grouped into three different sections, 'Basic properties of wood-based structural elements', 'Design aspects on timber structures' and 'Joints and structural assemblies', this book focuses on key issues in the understanding of: timber as a modern engineered construction material with controlled and documented properties the background for design of structural systems based on timber and engineered wood products the background for structural design of joints in structural timber systems Furthermore, this invaluable book contains advanced teaching material for all technical schools and universities involved in timber engineering. It also provides an essential resource for timber engineering students and researchers, as well as practicing structural and civil engineers.
