Download or read book Redefining Christian Identity written by Jan J. Ginkel. This book was released on 2005. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cultural interaction in the Middle East since the Rise of Islam - such was the title of a combined research project of the Universities of Leiden and Groningen aimed at describing the various ways in which the Christian communities of the Middle East expressed their distinct cultural identity in Muslim societies. As part of the project the symposium "Redefining Christian Identity, Christian cultural strategies since the rise of Islam" took place at Groningen University on April 7-10, 1999. This book contains the proceedings of this conference. From the articles it becomes clear that a number of distinct "cultural strategies" can be identified, some of which were used very frequently, others only in certain groups or at particular periods of time. The three main strategies that are represented in the papers of this volume are: (i) reinterpretation of the pre-Islamic Christian heritage; (ii) inculturation of elements from the new Islamic context; (iii) isolation from the Islamic context. Viewed in time, it is clear that the reinterpretation of older Christian heritage was particularly important in the first two centuries after the rise of Islam, the seventh and eighth centuries, that inculturation was the dominant theme of the Abbasid period, in the ninth to twelfth centuries, whereas from the Mongol period onwards, from the thirteenth to the eighteenth centuries, isolation more and more often occurs, although inculturation of elements from the predominantly Muslim environment never came to a complete standstill.

Book excerpt: The author of this book examines The Purpose Driven Church, The Purpose Driven Life, and the business system that Rick Warren has developed to promote it around the world. He looks carefully at his claims, his use of scripture, his integration of human wisdom with scripture, and his ability to get thousands of pastors to convert from expository Bible preaching to being Purpose Driven. In the end he compares Rick Warren's version of "church health" with that of Jesus Christ. The reader will see how Rick Warren has indeed redefined Christianity. About the Author

Book Synopsis Undone by : McGerran Clouser

Download or read book Undone written by McGerran Clouser. This book was released on 2021-08-19. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We all see ourselves in different ways. When you look in the mirror, when you think about your life, and the things you've done, or maybe the things you hope to do. Do you see yourself the way your Father in Heaven sees you? I think that deep down, most of us- at least I know I do- look at ourselves, and we think something along the lines of, "I'm not good enough", whether because of our physical appearance, the way we think we treat people, or what we've done, we all, at some point or another, buy in to the lie, that we aren't good enough, and maybe even, that we aren't deserving of love. When you take a real, deep, long, hard look at our innermost self, is there a part of you that thinks "how could GOD love me?". Well if there is, I would love to help answer that deafening question, that sits in the deepest parts of our souls. Because even if you already know the classic, cliche, churchy answer, that Jesus loves you- which is true- the depth of what that really looks like, may surprise you. My hope is that this book helps you to know exactly what the Father thinks when He looks at you, and helps you to rediscover your true identity.

Book Synopsis Slave by : John F. MacArthur

Download or read book Slave written by John F. MacArthur. This book was released on 2012-11-05. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A COVER-UP OF BIBLICAL PROPORTIONS... Centuries ago, English translators perpetrated a fraud in the New Testament, and it’s been purposely hidden and covered up ever since. Your own Bible is probably included in the cover-up! In this book, which includes a study guide for personal or group use, John MacArthur unveils the essential and clarifying revelation that may be keeping you from a fulfilling—and correct—relationship with God. It’s powerful. It’s controversial. And with new eyes you’ll see the riches of your salvation in a radically new way. What does it mean to be a Christian the way Jesus defined it? MacArthur says it all boils down to one word: SLAVE “We have been bought with a price. We belong to Christ. We are His own possession.” Endorsements: "Dr. John MacArthur is never afraid to tell the truth and in this book he does just that. The Christian's great privilege is to be the slave of Christ. Dr. MacArthur makes it clear that this is one of the Bible's most succinct ways of describing our discipleship. This is a powerful exposition of Scripture, a convincing corrective to shallow Christianity, a masterful work of pastoral encouragement...a devotional classic." - Dr. R. Albert Mohler, President, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary "John MacArthur expertly and lucidly explains that Jesus frees us from bondage into a royal slavery that we might be His possession. Those who would be His children must, paradoxically, be willing to be His slaves." - Dr. R.C. Sproul "Dr. John MacArthur's teaching on 'slavery' resonates in the deepest recesses of my 'inner-man.' As an African-American pastor, I have been there. That is why the thought of someone writing about slavery as being a 'God-send' was the most ludicrous, unconscionable thing that I could have ever imagined...until I read this book. Now I see that becoming a slave is a biblical command, completely redefining the idea of freedom in Christ. I don't want to simply be a 'follower' or even just a 'servant'...but a 'slave'." - The Rev. Dr. Dallas H. Wilson, Jr., Vicar, St. John's Episcopal Chapel, Charleston, SC
