Book excerpt: Fleetwood Mac is a rare rock band breed. Their musical triumphs are vast and storied, but their inner, soap opera relationships are just as legendary as their hit records. The band originally formed with Mick Fleetwood, John and Christine McVie in 1967. But it wasn’t until 1975 that guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and then-girlfriend and musical partner, Stevie Nicks, joined and the best-known incarnation of the group came together. Looking to replace recently departed guitarist, Bob Welch, Fleetwood heard Buckingham-Nicks’ self-titled album, and liked it enough to ask for an introduction to Buckingham. Fleetwood invited him to join Fleetwood Mac, but he would only agree on one condition: Nicks would become a member of the band as well. The new lineup included three members who could write songs and sing lead vocals - Christine McVie, Buckingham and Nicks, who all brought different sensibilities to their lyrics. The new band broke through with the self-titled album, Fleetwood Mac (1975), which sold over five million copies.

Download or read book Quicklet on The Best Maroon 5 Songs: Lyrics and Analysis written by Nolan Collins. This book was released on 2012-07-26. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maroon 5 is an alternative-rock band formed in Los Angeles, CA and is composed of members Adam Levine (vocals and guitar), James Valentine (guitar), Jesse Carmichael (keyboard), Mickey Madden (bass guitar), and Matt Flynn (drums). They haven’t always been the platinum-selling band that they are now. Rather, the members of Maroon 5 started out like any other band did: in a garage. More specifically, Jesse Carmichael’s garage in Malibu, CA. They also didn’t start with the moniker of Maroon 5: Previously, they were Kara’s Flowers. It wasn’t until after a handful of changes in band members, a few deals (including Reprise Records and Warner Brothers), and a cross country trip for Adam and Jesse that they officially adopted a new name of Maroon 5 in 2001. Maroon 5 released their first album in mid-2002, then hit the road on the Jeep World Outside tour with other notable up-and-comers like Train and O.A.R. and with Sheryl Crow headlining. After that tour, they opened for John Mayer in early 2003. Guitarist James Valentine had actually become friends with John Mayer back in 1996 at Berklee College of Music. When they ran into each other again in 2002, John Mayer listened to Maroon 5’s music and loved it, so he invited them to go on tour with him. Maroon 5 didn’t stop touring there, though. In fact, they continued touring for almost two more years, bringing their total time spent non-stop on the road to a little more than three years! One of the band’s favorite experiences during this time was opening for The Rolling Stones.

Book Synopsis Quicklet on The Best Evanescence Songs: Lyrics and Analysis by : David Michael Beaudrie

Download or read book Quicklet on The Best Evanescence Songs: Lyrics and Analysis written by David Michael Beaudrie. This book was released on 2012-07-30. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABOUT THE BOOK Evanescence is known for its heavy guitar riffs and the melodic voice of singer Amy Lee. Her lyrics are also highly reflective and portray a brutal honesty in talking about personal pain. This honesty coupled with the bands distinctive sound earned them a loyal fanbase that stuck with the band through album delays and lineup alterations. Lee has always been the face of the band, especially after Moodys departure, and generally dictates the creative direction and focus of the group. Here's an illuminating look inside the group's hit songs. MEET THE AUTHOR Dave Beaudrie is a graduate and valedictorian of Michigan State University with a B.A. in Advertising. He also studied Theatre and has performed in multiple productions around the country. He is a professional screenwriter as well with several projects either produced or in pre-production. He is licensed as a security specialist in the state of California and worked in the field for several years. Beaudrie is an avid mixed martial arts fan and has written extensively on the subject. He writes comedy as well under a pen name and resides in Los Angeles. EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK On "What You Want": Lee had struggled with what she really wanted to do musically and with her life between the albums The Open Door and Evanescence. What You Want was a reminder to her fans and to herself that the band was her main focus and thats what she wanted her life to be about again. The video was shot in New York and featured Lee walking down the Brooklyn Bridge while reminiscing about the past. At the end, she jumps off the bridge and is met safely at the bottom by her bandmates. They then walk off together to forge a new musical destiny. On "Sweet Sacrifice": The opening lyrics of the song clearly reference being freed from the confines of an ugly relationship. The unchaining refers to finally breaking free of the unhealthy emotional ties that keep people in romances that are toxic to them. The next verse then addresses gathering the courage to face your fears and break away from those who hurt you. The song also addresses the abuser with lines such as you know you live to break me and you love to hate me, dont you, honey? Instead of becoming a sacrifice to the altar of a lovers cruelty, the song preaches breaking away and taking a stand for oneself. Download or read book Quicklet on The Best Eminem Songs: Lyrics and Analysis written by Acamea Deadwiler. This book was released on 2012-07-30. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABOUT THE BOOK Marshall Mathers, known to most of the world as iconic rapper Eminem, is no stranger to controversy. However, he is also no stranger to creative genius. The music industry became fascinated with Eminem when he burst onto the scene in 1999 with mega-producer Dr. Dre, touting The Slim Shady LP, an album riddled with graphic tales of Eminems demented alter-ego, Slim Shady. From there, Eminems music became a calling card for the psychopath in all of us, making famous typically taboo lines such as: You think I wont choke no whore till the vocal cords dont work in her throat no more? (From Kill You off of the Marshall Mathers LP.) MEET THE AUTHOR Acamea Deadwiler is a freelance writer that has been featured in several publications, and also a columnist with Examiner.com. She is a lover of all things art, entertainment and sports. Currently residing in Nevada, Acamea is completing a Masters Degree in Sports Administration at Valparaiso University. You may follow her on Twitter @acameald. EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK It wasn't just the shock value, however, that had fans hooked. The white rapper with the bleached-blonde hair could actually spit. Eminem's delivery and use of metaphors was lethal. His storytelling was so witty, one could not help but laugh at things that would normally cause one to cringe. As deranged and violent as his music portrayed him to be, Eminem was truly talented. After allowing Slim Shady to dominate most of his albums, Eminem reinvented himself, and did so magnificently with Recovery, his most personal and subdued album to date. No more gimmicks. No blonde hair, no funny skits and no tales of reckless escapades. Just a supremely gifted MC. Book Synopsis Quicklet on The Best The White Stripes Songs: Lyrics and Analysis by : Winston Macallum

Download or read book Quicklet on The Best The White Stripes Songs: Lyrics and Analysis written by Winston Macallum. This book was released on 2012-07-30. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABOUT THE BOOK When country music legend Loretta Lynn first heard The White Stripes, she said the duo of Jack White and Meg White “sounded like someone was breaking into a bank.” She was describing the aggressive, loud and original sounds of the Detroit band that was changing rock ‘n’ roll with its fusion of garage-style rock and blues arrangements. Once thought to be brother and sister, Jack White and Meg White came crashing into the music scene circa 2002 with their megahit, “Fell In Love With A Girl.” When they left the music scene for good on Feb. 2, 2011, they left the world with rock ‘n’ roll hits that will survive beyond their creators. Even after it was discovered the Whites were actually ex-husband and ex-wife, no one stopped listening. Critics were too busy hailing The White Stripes as saviors of rock ‘n’ roll with hits such as “Seven Nation Army” and “Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground.” Via Creative Commons For years, the band was a bit of a rock enigma, even to each other. They went on hiatus for a few years before reuniting for 2007’s Icky Thump, a commercial and critical success. But in the fall of 2007, the band cancelled the rest of their U.S. tour due to Meg White’s “acute anxiety.” Jack White was the talkative, lead figure of the band, while Meg White was the introverted one no one seemed to understand. In a 2009 interview with The Guardian, Jack White explained how he too tries to get past the enigma of Meg White. “My ears prick up when she actually mentions something about what we've done. I'm so interested to hear what her take on it is. But it quickly dissolves into: ‘I don't know what she's taking from that... I'm just so happy that she knew that we played that one show!"’ Meg White’s distinctive primitive drumming style made The White Stripes different from any other rock band at the time, and Jack White’s virtuoso guitar skills made them superior. Despite only two members, the band filled arenas and festivals with their ground-shaking sound.
