Book Synopsis The Mystic Muse by : Bullhe Shāh

Download or read book The Mystic Muse written by Bullhe Shāh. This book was released on 1996. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most significant contribution of the Sufi poets of the Punjab is their rising above the narrow and parochial concepts of religion and laying emphasis on the love of God alone. They believe that the love of God can be attained through the love of man. Sain Bulleh Shah is the most important voice among them. The rational and socialistic content of his verse, more importantly his sympathy with the have-nots and the downtrodden speaks volumes for his forward-looking vision. His romantic defiance of both Hindu and Muslim bigotry and ritualism is particularly telling. Bulleh Shah fostered communal amity and understanding which is the primary need of our times ridden with blind fundamentalism and petty political considerations. It is a pity that no authentic version of Sain Bulleh Shah’s work is obtaining. All that has travelled to us is from mouth to mouth. It, therefore, varies from Persian script to Gurumukhi, script, from Pakistan to India. This may, at times, be evident from the text covered in these pages. The English translation is based on Gurumukhi script prevalent in India while the text in Persian script is that available in Pakistan.

Book Synopsis The Contextualized Psalms (Punjabi Zabur) by : Yousaf Sadiq

Download or read book The Contextualized Psalms (Punjabi Zabur) written by Yousaf Sadiq. This book was released on 2020-11-09. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The metrical translation of the Psalms into the Punjabi language, set to indigenous music in the late nineteenth century in India, plays a vital role in the personal and communal worship of the global Punjabi Christian community. This book is a pioneer work that comprehensively encompasses the cultural, socio-historical, missional, and sociolinguistic aspects of the Punjabi Psalter. It investigates the unique and fascinating story of the contextualizing of Psalms in an exclusive South Asian Punjabi context and engages in an in-depth study on the life and work of Rev. Dr. Imam-ud-Din Shahbaz. This work determines to bring a deeper appreciation for the Punjabi Psalter by encouraging the Punjabi Christians to not only pass the Psalms on to the next generations but also to grow in loving and valuing their mother-tongue, the Punjabi language. The thrust of this book is to esteem the shared heritage of the global Punjabi Christian community—the Psalms in Punjabi, commonly known as the Punjabi Zabur.

Book Synopsis Punjab Reconsidered by : Anshu Malhotra

Download or read book Punjab Reconsidered written by Anshu Malhotra. This book was released on 2012-02-21. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is Punjabiyat? What are the different notions of Punjab? This volume analyses these ideas and explores the different aspects that constitute Punjab as a region conceptually in history, culture, and practice. Each essay examines a different Punjabi culture—language-based and literary; religious and those that define a 'community'; rural, urban, and middle class; and historical, contemporary, and cosmopolitan. Together, these essays unravel the complex foundations of Punjabiyat. The volume also shows how the recent history of Punjab—partition, aspirations of statehood, and a large and assertive diaspora—has had a discernible impact on the region's scholarship. Departing from conventional studies on Punjab, this book presents fresh perspectives and new insights into its regional culture.
