Book excerpt: Excerpt from Proceedings of the Teachers College Board (Formerly Normal School Board) Of the State of Illinois, 1938 Ordinary grade teachers in the Carbondale schools not doing critic work receive from $90 to $110 a month. In order to get the quality of people with the training which the accrediting associations require, it is necessary for the College to pay higher salaries. The College share of these salaries is justified by the fact that the Board of Education and the Superintendent of the Carbondale schools relinquish control of the rooms used for practice to the 'college. All maintenance costs and supplies other than special and unusual Supplies used-for experimental purposes by the College, are supplied by the Carbondale Board of Education without cost to the College. No direct payments are made either to the Carbondale Board of Education or the rural schools. All salaries here involved were approved by the Board last July with the regular salary schedule. Therefore, the only payment that needs to be authorized in order to meet the requirements of the State Department of Finance is the $440 monthly payment to the Carterville High School.
