Por este motivo, un importante grupo de académicos europeos y latinoamericanos explora en esta obra la política exterior de los movimientos y líderes populistas. Entre otros temas, se indaga acerca de cómo repercute el populismo en la política exterior de los Estados, qué nuevos temas y discursos propone, o cuál es su aportación a cuestiones como la globalización, el comercio, la seguridad y las migraciones. Mediante varios estudios de caso de Europa y de las Américas, el libro averigua si existe un núcleo de valores internacionales común a los populismos de diferente ideología y procedencia geográfica, o si tales diferencias son demasiado amplias para que se pueda hablar de una internacional populista.
