Book Synopsis Plastic Analysis and Design of Steel Structures by : M. Bill Wong

Download or read book Plastic Analysis and Design of Steel Structures written by M. Bill Wong. This book was released on 2011-08-30. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The plastic analysis method has been used extensively by engineers for designing steel structures. Simpler structures can be analyzed using the basic virtual work formulation, but more complex frames are evaluated with specialist computer software. This new book sets out a method for carrying out plastic analysis of complex structures without the need for specialist tools. The book provides an introduction to the use of linear programming techniques for plastic analysis. This powerful and advanced method for plastic analysis is important in an automated computational environment, in particular for non-linear structural analysis.A detailed comparison between the design codes for the United States and Australia and the emerging European Eurocodes enables practising engineers to understand the issues involved in plastic design procedures and the limitations imposed by this design method. Covers latest research in plastic analysis and analytical tools Introduces new successive approximation method for calculating collapse loads Programming guide for using spreadsheet tools for plastic analysis

Book Synopsis Plastic Design and Second-Order Analysis of Steel Frames by : W.F. Chen

Download or read book Plastic Design and Second-Order Analysis of Steel Frames written by W.F. Chen. This book was released on 2013-12-20. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plastic Design of Steel Frames assesses the current status and future direction of computer-based analyses of inelastic strength and stability for direct frame design. It shows how design rules are used in practical frame design and provides an introduction to the second-order theory of inelastic frame design. The book includes two computer programs on a diskette: one for the first-order analyses and the other for the second-order plastic hinge analysis of planar frame design. The second-order program can be used to predict realistic strengths and stabilities of planar frames, thereby eliminating the tedious task of estimating factors for individual member capacity checks. Both programs include clear input instructions. The diskette also contains the Fortran source-code listing for the second-order plastic-hinge analysis, enabling the user to customize the program. The programs will run on an IBM PC-AT or equivalent machine with 640 kB of memory and 30 MB hard drive.

Book Synopsis Analysis and Design of Steel and Composite Structures by : Qing Quan Liang

Download or read book Analysis and Design of Steel and Composite Structures written by Qing Quan Liang. This book was released on 2018-10-08. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steel and composite steel–concrete structures are widely used in modern bridges, buildings, sport stadia, towers, and offshore structures. Analysis and Design of Steel and Composite Structures offers a comprehensive introduction to the analysis and design of both steel and composite structures. It describes the fundamental behavior of steel and composite members and structures, as well as the current design criteria and procedures given in Australian standards AS/NZS 1170, AS 4100, AS 2327.1, Eurocode 4, and AISC-LRFD specifications. Featuring numerous step-by-step examples that clearly illustrate the detailed analysis and design of steel and composite members and connections, this practical and easy-to-understand text: Covers plates, members, connections, beams, frames, slabs, columns, and beam-columns Considers bending, axial load, compression, tension, and design for strength and serviceability Incorporates the author’s latest research on composite members Analysis and Design of Steel and Composite Structures is an essential course textbook on steel and composite structures for undergraduate and graduate students of structural and civil engineering, and an indispensable resource for practising structural and civil engineers and academic researchers. It provides a sound understanding of the behavior of structural members and systems.

Book Synopsis Design of Steel Structures by : Elias G. Abu-Saba

Download or read book Design of Steel Structures written by Elias G. Abu-Saba. This book was released on 2012-12-06. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended for classroom teaching in architectural and civil engineering at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Although it has been developed from lecture notes given in structural steel design, it can be useful to practicing engineers. Many of the examples presented in this book are drawn from the field of design of structures. Design of Steel Structures can be used for one or two semesters of three hours each on the undergraduate level. For a two-semester curriculum, Chapters 1 through 8 can be used during the first semester. Heavy emphasis should be placed on Chapters 1 through 5, giving the student a brief exposure to the consideration of wind and earthquakes in the design of buildings. With the new federal requirements vis a vis wind and earthquake hazards, it is beneficial to the student to have some under standing of the underlying concepts in this field. In addition to the class lectures, the instructor should require the student to submit a term project that includes the complete structural design of a multi-story building using standard design procedures as specified by AISC Specifications. Thus, the use of the AISC Steel Construction Manual is a must in teaching this course. In the second semester, Chapters 9 through 13 should be covered. At the undergraduate level, Chapters 11 through 13 should be used on a limited basis, leaving the student more time to concentrate on composite construction and built-up girders.
