Book excerpt: This book rekindles the well-known connection between people and place in the context of a global pandemic. The chapters are divided into two sections. In the first section, "Place Attachment During a Pandemic," we review the nature of the COVID-19 pandemic and the extent of its impact on place attachment and human-environment interactions. We examine how restrictions in mobility and environmental changes can have a significant psychological burden on people who are dealing with the effect of place attachment disruption that arises during a pandemic. In the second section, "Adjusting to Place Attachment Disruption During and After a Pandemic," we focus on adaptive processes and responses that could enable people to adjust positively to place attachment disruption. We conclude the book by discussing the potential for pro-environmental behavior to promote place attachment and flourishing in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic by introducing an integrative framework of place flourishing and exploring its implications for theory, research, policy, and practice.

Book Synopsis Human Flourishing by : Andrew Briggs

Download or read book Human Flourishing written by Andrew Briggs. This book was released on 2021-10-18. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'A careful and thoughtful provocation' (Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury) Ambitiously placed at the intersection of scientific insights and spiritual wisdom, Human Flourishing prompts us to reflect on what constitutes a good life and the choices that can help achieve it. For thousands of years, humans have asked 'Why we are here?' and 'What makes for a good life?' At different times, different answers have held sway. Nowadays, there are more answers proposed than ever. Much of humanity still finds the ultimate answers to such questions in religion. But in countries across the globe, secular views are widely held. In any event, whether religious or secular, individuals, communities and governments still have to make decisions about what people get from life. This book therefore examines what is meant by human flourishing and see what it has to offer for those seeking after truth, meaning and purpose. This is a book written for anyone who wants a future for themselves, their children, and their fellow humans - a future that enables flourishing, pays due consideration to issues of truth and helps us find meaning and purpose in our lives. At a time when most of us are bombarded with messages about what we should or should not do to live healthily, attain a work-life balance and find meaning, a careful consideration of the contributions of both scientific insight and spiritual wisdom provides a new angle. This is therefore a book that not only helps readers clarify their views and see things afresh but also help them improve their own well-being in an age of AI and other new technologies.

Book Synopsis Iconoclasm by : Tony Zorc

Download or read book Iconoclasm written by Tony Zorc. This book was released on 2021-03-30. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's Time to Adapt for the New Era of Business In March of 2020, most of the world--along with our politicians--panicked. When presented with an unfamiliar threat in the form of the novel coronavirus, life as we knew it shut down. Without having a plan, we responded in a panic, with no understanding of the true risk to our health or our economy. Our collective reaction to the virus points to one crucial factor: We as a society do not question what we are told--potentially to our own detriment. This book is not about pointing fingers and laying blame. It is about building an inquisitive spirit and forming our own opinions through critical thinking. It is about considering how to achieve success in a new way going forward. In Iconoclasm: A Survival Guide for the Post-Pandemic Economy, author and iconoclast Tony Zorc outlines the strategies and insights of iconoclasm and how to not only survive but thrive in the post-pandemic economy. Iconoclasm is about unlocking doors that seem to be shut--and ushering everyone through them. In these pages as you learn about the methodology of the iconoclast, you'll discover the key to unlocking success in the current and post-pandemic panic economy, professionally and personally.
