Book Synopsis Adaptive Phytoremediation Practices by : Vimal Chandra Pandey

Download or read book Adaptive Phytoremediation Practices written by Vimal Chandra Pandey. This book was released on 2022-02-16. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adaptive Phytoremediation Practices: Resilience to Climate Change discusses current phytoremediation practices under an ever-pressing need for environmental remediation due to increasing pollution in a changing climate. Phytoremediation is increasingly relevant due to plants’ high effectiveness and sustainability during remediation and the ability of potential phytoremediation plants to adapt to changes in climate. Changing climatic conditions cause various biotic and abiotic stresses in plants and thereby negatively affect a plant’s establishment, growth, and yield. Therefore, the integration of suitable climate-resilient plants and adaptive remedial practices along with proper agro-biotechnological interventions is of paramount importance to mitigate the rapidly growing pollution. This book is an important reference for environmental scientists, particularly those working in pollution management and remediation, forming an up-to-date collection of phytoremediation practices that provide sustainable solutions as a holistic approach for carrying out phytoremediation under changing climatic conditions. Provides up-to-date research and understanding on how to design, refine, and implement adaptive phytoremediation practices Focuses on enhancing resilience in plants toward climate change and explanations of the characteristics of resilient plants for adaptive phytoremediation practices in a changing climate Presents methods and solutions for adapting phytoremediation practices to climate change

Book Synopsis Phytoremediation Potential of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants by : Amit Kumar

Download or read book Phytoremediation Potential of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants written by Amit Kumar. This book was released on 2023-10-31. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental contamination of heavy metals is a major problem, threatening sustainable agricultural production and health of millions of people. The extensive distribution of heavy metals in soil and water makes it necessary to employ environment-friendly low-cost and sustainable approaches for the remediation of contaminated sites. Phytoremediation has been considered a viable approach to meet these demands; however, it must provide some economic gains too. The use of economically important medicinal and aromatic plants is helpful in restoration of metal-contaminated sites and also may provide economic gains to the farmers. The book brings about a critical overview of the prospects of utilizing medicinal and aromatic plants in phytoremediation, including their utility, economic benefits and human safety issues. The book will be a timely addition to the field and would act as landmark. This book is of interest to teachers, researchers, doctoral and graduate students working in the area of environmental pollution and cleanup technologies. The students working in the field of metal(loid) stress and crop biofortification will also find this to be a useful read. The content of the book is presented in simple language and represented through beautiful and scientifically informative figures and tables.

Book Synopsis Fiber Crop-Based Phytoremediation by : Vimal Chandra Pandey

Download or read book Fiber Crop-Based Phytoremediation written by Vimal Chandra Pandey. This book was released on 2022-06-21. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fiber Crop–Based Phytoremediation: Socio-economic and Environmental Sustainability provides an informative source of information on using fiber crops for phytoremediation. Phytoremediation is gaining attention globally due to ever-increasing numbers and areas of industrially polluted sites. The major challenge is to develop new and cost-effective solutions to decontaminate polluted sites. In this regard, plant-based remediation, especially using fiber crops, is a promising and cost-effective approach for environmental remediation on a large-scale due to its socio-economic and ecological sustainability. Furthermore, changing environmental conditions also cause various biotic and abiotic stresses in fiber crops and thereby negatively affect the fiber crop establishment, growth and yield. This book will be specifically important to these readers who need to be able to select specific fiber crop species according to site-specificity of the contaminated site. Provides up-to-date research and understanding on how to utilize fiber crops for the phytoremediation of contaminated land Covers a wide range of applicable fiber crops, including bast, grass and woody crops, allowing for the utilization of techniques regardless of specific fiber crop Details the uses and benefits of fiber crop phytoremediation on environmental, societal and economic development

Book Synopsis Bio-Inspired Land Remediation by : Vimal Chandra Pandey

Download or read book Bio-Inspired Land Remediation written by Vimal Chandra Pandey. This book was released on 2023-01-01. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Land is fundamental to the human life. The upper layer of land is a non-renewable resource, and source of food. Therefore, land health is essential to long-term food security and to promote sustainable livelihoods. On account of urbanization, industrialization and population growth, land pollution is one of the major issues worldwide. As a result, land pollution is continuing across the world, and has been linked with a wide range of potentially toxic contaminants at rates that deteriorate land quality. Land pollution can result either anthropogenic activities or natural activities. The major contaminants of land pollution are metalloids, petroleum hydrocarbon, radioactive elements, polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), Pesticide, other organic pollutants, etc. that comes from different types of sources. In urban and peri-urban areas, irrigation of agricultural land with polluted water is also a reason of land pollution. Therefore, land security is an important issue for future sustainability. Its remediation and management are important issue worldwide to protect land quality and functions. Land pollution means degradation of earth's surface. Polluted land comes under the category of degraded land. Hence, the remediation of polluted land is essential for regaining biodiversity and ecosystems services and thereby achieving United Nations-Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs).This fact showed the need to develop research into land remediation. Bio-inspired land remediation has undergone a huge development. Therefore, Biomanagement has a lot of potential to secure upper earth’s surface through the land remediation programs targeted during the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030). This book explores the remediation of land pollution that includes Phytoremediation, Bioremediation (bacterial remediation and fungal remediation), Vermiremediation, Biochar-based remediation and other Bio-inspired remediation. This book will be a remarkable asset for research scholars, environmentalists, ecological scientist, agriculturist, practitioners, policy makers, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders alike.
