Book Synopsis Performance Engineering of Computer and Telecommunications Systems by : Madjid Merabti

Download or read book Performance Engineering of Computer and Telecommunications Systems written by Madjid Merabti. This book was released on 2012-12-06. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the proceedings of the Workshop on the Performance Engineering of Computer and Telecommunications Systems. The workshop Was held at Liverpool John Moores University, England on the 5th and 6th September 1995. The workshop follows a series organised by the British Computer Society (BCS) Special Interest Group on Performance Engineering. The workshop addressed most techniques and experieI1ces in the Engineering of Computer and Telecommunications Systems that provide a guaranteed quality of service. Techniques such as measurements, simulation, and analytical models and their applications to ATM networks, Multimedia Systems, Distributed Systems, Access and Wide Area Networks were presented. In addition a number of papers dealt with advances in the development of analytical models, simulation architectures and the application of formal methods, stich as Process Algebra, to the specification and building of performance biased computer systems. The book is suitable for systems designers, engineers, researchers and postgraduate students interested in the design and implementation of Computer Systems, Networks and Telecommunications. Many people assisted in the arrangements and success of this workshop. I would like to thank them all and in particular the reviewers. I would also like to particularly thank our industrial sponsors GPT Public Networks Group, Liverpool and BICC Cables, Chester, England for their generous financial and material support.

Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Performance Evaluation of Computer and Telecommunication Systems by : Mohammed S. Obaidat

Download or read book Fundamentals of Performance Evaluation of Computer and Telecommunication Systems written by Mohammed S. Obaidat. This book was released on 2010-01-26. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The only singular, all-encompassing textbook on state-of-the-art technical performance evaluation Fundamentals of Performance Evaluation of Computer and Telecommunication Systems uniquely presents all techniques of performance evaluation of computers systems, communication networks, and telecommunications in a balanced manner. Written by the renowned Professor Mohammad S. Obaidat and his coauthor Professor Noureddine Boudriga, it is also the only resource to treat computer and telecommunication systems as inseparable issues. The authors explain the basic concepts of performance evaluation, applications, performance evaluation metrics, workload types, benchmarking, and characterization of workload. This is followed by a review of the basics of probability theory, and then, the main techniques for performance evaluation namely measurement, simulation, and analytic modeling with case studies and examples. Contains the practical and applicable knowledge necessary for a successful performance evaluation in a balanced approach Reviews measurement tools, benchmark programs, design of experiments, traffic models, basics of queueing theory, and operational and mean value analysis Covers the techniques for validation and verification of simulation as well as random number generation, random variate generation, and testing with examples Features numerous examples and case studies, as well as exercises and problems for use as homework or programming assignments Fundamentals of Performance Evaluation of Computer and Telecommunication Systems is an ideal textbook for graduate students in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, and information sciences, technology, and systems. It is also an excellent reference for practicing engineers and scientists.

Book Synopsis 7th UK Computer and Telecommunications Performance Engineering Workshop by : Jane E. Hillston

Download or read book 7th UK Computer and Telecommunications Performance Engineering Workshop written by Jane E. Hillston. This book was released on 2013-06-29. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Performance engineering is a fast-moving field where advances in technology mean that new issues constantly need to be addressed. In response to this, the UK Computer and Telecommunications Performance Engineering workshops were set up in 1985 to provide a valuable opportunity for the discussion and exchange of ideas. They have subsequently become well established as the focus for academic and industrial practitioners from the UK and Europe with an interest in performance and modelling and analysis. This volume contains the 16 papers which were presented at the 7th annual workshop, held in Edinburgh in July 1991. The workshop highlighted various aspects of parallel computing - an area which is attracting an increasing amount of interest - and the work presented in these papers is of particular interest as the contributors used real analysis to evaluate their models. The papers cover an unusually wide range of topics, both practical and theoretical, including advances in queueing theory, common performance problems and their solutions, assessments of available tools and presentations of new theoretical results. The result is an extremely comprehensive coverage of this important and challenging field. This volume provides an up-to-date assessment of work being carried out by performance engineers in the UK and Europe and will be an invaluable reference book for researchers and practitioners wishing to familiarise themselves with the benefits of performance and analysis.

Book Synopsis Performance Engineering by : Reiner Dumke

Download or read book Performance Engineering written by Reiner Dumke. This book was released on 2001-05-23. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Initially, computer systems performance analyses were carried out primarily because of limited resources. Due to ever increasing functional complexity of computational systems and user requirements, performance engineering continues to play a major role in software development. This book assesses the state of the art in performance engineering. Besides revised chapters drawn from two workshops on performance engineering held in 2000, additional chapters were solicited in order to provide complete coverage of all relevant aspects. The first part is devoted to the relation between software engineering and performance engineering; the second part focuses on the use of models, measures, and tools; finally, case studies with regard to concrete technologies are presented. Researchers, professional software engineers, and advanced students interested in performance analysis will find this book an indispensable source of information and reference.
