In the face of these events, a multitude of old and new formulations and imaginings of nation and national identity took shape and interacted with each other. By refusing to acknowledge the fact of genocide, successive Turkish governments not only perpetuate massive historical injustice, but also pose a fundamental obstacle to Turkey's democratization today.
