Book Synopsis Optimal Domain and Integral Extension of Operators by : S. Okada

Download or read book Optimal Domain and Integral Extension of Operators written by S. Okada. This book was released on 2008-09-09. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the analysis of linear operators from a quasi-Banach function space into a Banach space. The central theme is to extend the operator to as large a (function) space as possible, its optimal domain, and to take advantage of this in analyzing the original operator. Most of the material appears in print for the first time. The book has an interdisciplinary character and is aimed at graduates, postgraduates, and researchers in modern operator theory.

Book Synopsis Optimal Domain and Integral Extension of Operators Acting in Frechet Function Spaces by : Bettina Blaimer

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is known that a continuous linear operator T defined on a Banach function space X(mu) (over a finite measure space (Omega, igma, mu) and with values in a Banach space X can be extended to a sort of optimal domain. Indeed, under certain assumptions on the space X(mu) and the operator T this optimal domain coincides with L1(mT), the space of all functions integrable with respect to the vector measure mT associated with T, and the optimal extension of T turns out to be the integration operator ImT. In this book the idea is taken up and the corresponding theory is translated to a larger class of function spaces, namely to Frechet function spaces X(mu) (this time over a sigma-finite measure space (Omega, igma, mu). It is shown that under similar assumptions on X(mu) and T as in the case of Banach function spaces the so-called "optimal extension process" also works for this altered situation. In a further step the newly gained results are applied to four well-known operators defined on the Frechet function spaces Lp-([0,1]) resp. Lp-(G) (where G is a compact Abelian group) and Lploc-

Book excerpt: This volume contains a selection of articles on the theme "vector measures, integration and applications" together with some related topics. The articles consist of both survey style and original research papers, are written by experts in thearea and present a succinct account of recent and up-to-date knowledge. The topic is interdisciplinary by nature and involves areas such as measure and integration (scalar, vector and operator-valued), classical and harmonic analysis, operator theory, non-commutative integration, andfunctional analysis. The material is of interest to experts, young researchers and postgraduate students.

Book Synopsis A Glimpse at Hilbert Space Operators by : Sheldon Axler

Book excerpt: Paul Richard Halmos, who lived a life of unbounded devotion to mathematics and to the mathematical community, died at the age of 90 on October 2, 2006. This volume is a memorial to Paul by operator theorists he inspired. Paul’sinitial research, beginning with his 1938Ph.D. thesis at the University of Illinois under Joseph Doob, was in probability, ergodic theory, and measure theory. A shift occurred in the 1950s when Paul’s interest in foundations led him to invent a subject he termed algebraic logic, resulting in a succession of papers on that subject appearing between 1954 and 1961, and the book Algebraic Logic, published in 1962. Paul’s ?rst two papers in pure operator theory appeared in 1950. After 1960 Paul’s research focused on Hilbert space operators, a subject he viewed as enc- passing ?nite-dimensional linear algebra. Beyond his research, Paul contributed to mathematics and to its community in manifold ways: as a renowned expositor, as an innovative teacher, as a tireless editor, and through unstinting service to the American Mathematical Society and to the Mathematical Association of America. Much of Paul’s in?uence ?owed at a personal level. Paul had a genuine, uncalculating interest in people; he developed an enormous number of friendships over the years, both with mathematicians and with nonmathematicians. Many of his mathematical friends, including the editors ofthisvolume, whileabsorbingabundantquantitiesofmathematicsatPaul’sknee, learned from his advice and his example what it means to be a mathematician.

Book Synopsis Topics in Complex Analysis and Operator Theory by : Oscar Blasco

Download or read book Topics in Complex Analysis and Operator Theory written by Oscar Blasco. This book was released on 2012. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the lecture notes as well as some invited papers presented at the Third Winter School in Complex Analysis, Operator Theory and Applications held February 2-5, 2010, in Valencia, Spain. The book is divided into two parts. The first is an extended self-contained version of the mini-courses taught at the School. The papers in this first part are: Notes on real analytic functions and classical operators, by Pawel Domanski; Shining a Hilbertian lamp on the bidisk, by John E. McCarthy; Selected problems in perturbation theory, by Vladimir V. Peller; and Composition operators on Hardy-Orlicz spaces, by Luis Rodriguez-Piazza. The second part consists of several research papers on recent advances in the area and some survey articles of an expository character. The articles in this second part are: Remarks on weighted mixed norm spaces, by O. Blasco; Interpolation subspaces of $L^1$ of a vector measure and norm inequalities for the integration operator, by J.M. Calabuig, J. Rodriguez, and E.A. Sanchez-Perez; On the spectra of algebras of analytic functions, by D. Carando, D. Garcia, M. Maestre, and P. Sevilla-Peris; Holomorphic self-maps of the disk intertwining two linear fractional maps, by M.D. Contreras, S. Diaz-Madrigal, M.J. Martin, and D. Vukotic; ABC-type estimates via Garsia-type norms, by K.M. Dyakonov; and Volterra type operators on Bergman spaces with exponential weights, by J. Pau and J.A. Pelaez. The topics selected for the mini-courses cover several aspects of complex analysis and operator theory that play important roles in understanding connections between different areas that are considered in fashion these days. This part is aimed at graduate students and young researchers. The courses are self-contained, focusing on those aspects that are basic and that can lead the readers to a quick understanding of the theories presented in each topic. They start with the classical results and reach a selection of open problems in each case. The research and survey articles are aimed at young researchers in the area, as well as post-doc and senior researchers interested in complex analysis and operator theory. This book is published in cooperation with Real Sociedad Matematica Espanola.
