Book Synopsis Numerical Modeling of Concrete Cracking by : Guenter Hofstetter

Book excerpt: The book presents the underlying theories of the different approaches for modeling cracking of concrete and provides a critical survey of the state-of-the-art in computational concrete mechanics. It covers a broad spectrum of topics related to modeling of cracks, including continuum-based and discrete crack models, meso-scale models, advanced discretization strategies to capture evolving cracks based on the concept of finite elements with embedded discontinuities and on the extended finite element method, and extensions to coupled problems such a hygro-mechanical problems as required in computational durability analyses of concrete structures.

Book Synopsis Computational Modelling of Concrete Structures by : Nenad Bicanic

Download or read book Computational Modelling of Concrete Structures written by Nenad Bicanic. This book was released on 2014-03-04. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The EURO-C conference series (Split 1984, Zell am See 1990, Innsbruck 1994, Badgastein 1998, St Johann im Pongau 2003, Mayrhofen 2006, Schladming 2010, St Anton am Alberg 2014) brings together researchers and practising engineers concerned with theoretical, algorithmic and validation aspects associated with computational simulations of concrete and concrete structures. The conference reviews and discusses research advancements and the applicability and robustness of methods and models for reliable analysis of complex concrete, reinforced concrete and pre-stressed concrete structures in engineering practice. Conference topics and invited papers cover both computational mechanics and computational modelling aspects of the analysis and design of concrete and concrete structures: * Constitutive and Multiscale Modelling of Concrete * Advances in Computational Modelling * Time Dependent and Multiphysics Problems * Performance of Concrete Structures The book is of special interest to researchers in computational concrete mechanics, as well as industry experts in complex nonlinear simulations of concrete structures.

Book Synopsis Time-Dependent Behaviour of Concrete Structures by : Raymond Ian Gilbert

Download or read book Time-Dependent Behaviour of Concrete Structures written by Raymond Ian Gilbert. This book was released on 2010-09-21. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Serviceability failures of concrete structures involving excessive cracking or deflection are relatively common, even in structures that comply with code requirements. This is often as a result of a failure to adequately account for the time-dependent deformations of concrete in the design of the structure. The serviceability provisions embodied in codes of practice are relatively crude and, in some situations, unreliable and do not adequately model the in-service behaviour of structures. In particular, they fail to adequately account for the effects of creep and shrinkage of the concrete. Design for serviceability is complicated by the non-linear and inelastic behaviour of concrete at service loads. Providing detailed information, this book helps engineers to rationally predict the time-varying deformation of concrete structures under typical in-service conditions. It gives analytical methods to help anticipate time-dependent cracking, the gradual change in tension stiffening with time, creep induced deformations and the load independent strains caused by shrinkage and temperature changes. The calculation procedures are illustrated with many worked examples. A vital guide for practising engineers and advanced students of structural engineering on the design of concrete structures for serviceability and provides a penetrating insight into the time-dependent behaviour of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures.

This book covers both material modelling of plain, reinforced and prestressed concrete and nonlinear structural analysis of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures. The four chapters of the book are organized as follows: survey of experimental investigations, mathematical models, the finite element method for reinforced and prestressed concrete structures, application to engineering problems.
