Book Synopsis Numerical Models for the Prediction of Wind and Tide Driven Coastal Circulation and Water Level by : Jon M. Hubertz

Download or read book Numerical Models for the Prediction of Wind and Tide Driven Coastal Circulation and Water Level written by Jon M. Hubertz. This book was released on 1982. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper discusses two Inland Flooding Models which have features applicable to the study of river flow and flooding. The models are presently being used to address field needs in the area of storm surge studies. They provide a tool to predict water level and currents where these variables are needed in the design of coastal protection projects. They are also being used to study the changes in water level or current patterns which a coastal project might cause. These could be changes in the daily tidal circulation as well as changes related to storm events.

Book Synopsis Numerical Modeling of Ocean Circulation by : Robert N. Miller

Download or read book Numerical Modeling of Ocean Circulation written by Robert N. Miller. This book was released on 2007-01-18. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The modelling of ocean circulation is important not only for its own sake, but also in terms of the prediction of weather patterns and the effects of climate change. This 2007 book introduces the basic computational techniques necessary for all models of the ocean and atmosphere, and the conditions they must satisfy. It describes the workings of ocean models, the problems that must be solved in their construction, and how to evaluate computational results. Major emphasis is placed on examining ocean models critically, and determining what they do well and what they do poorly. Numerical analysis is introduced as needed, and exercises are included to illustrate major points. Developed from notes for a course taught in physical oceanography at the College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University, this book is ideal for graduate students of oceanography, geophysics, climatology and atmospheric science, and researchers in oceanography and atmospheric science.

Book Synopsis The Prediction of Wind-Driven Coastal Circulation by :

Download or read book The Prediction of Wind-Driven Coastal Circulation written by . This book was released on 1998. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This National Oceanographic Partnership Program project combines modeling, data assimilation and an observational program off Oregon built around deployment of the existing OSU Coastal Radar System. A high-resolution, three-dimensional coastal ocean circulation model is being applied to an Oregon coastal region centered on Newport for direct simulations, data assimilation and process studies. The ocean model is being forced initially by observed winds and heat flux and the results compared with observations. Ultimately, the ocean model will be driven by surface fluxes from a high-resolution coastal atmospheric model, forced by an operational large-scale weather prediction model. Inverse methods, or data assimilation techniques, that combine data and models in a scientifically rigorous fashion are being developed.
