Book Synopsis New Trends in Emission Control in the European Union by : Jerzy Merkisz

Download or read book New Trends in Emission Control in the European Union written by Jerzy Merkisz. This book was released on 2013-10-14. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses recent changes in the European legislation for exhaust emissions from motor vehicles. It starts with a comprehensive explanation of both the structure and range of applicability of new regulations, such as Euro 5 and Euro 6 for light-duty vehicles and Euro VI for heavy-duty vehicles. Then it introduces the most important issues in in-service conformity and conformity of production for vehicles, describing the latest procedures for performing exhaust emissions tests under both bench and operating conditions. Subsequently, it reports on portable emission measurement systems (PEMS) and their application for assessing the emissions of gaseous and particulate matter alike, under actual operating conditions and in all transport modes. Lastly, the book presents selected findings from exhaust emissions research on engines for a variety of transport vehicles, such as light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles, as well as non-road vehicles, which include farm tractors, groundwork and forest machinery, diesel locomotives, high-rail vehicles, combat vehicles and special-purpose vehicles. This work offers a valuable reference guide for researchers and professionals dealing with environmental regulations and vehicle manufacturing in the European Union.

Book Synopsis Research and Innovation in Road Vehicle Emissions Control by :

Download or read book Research and Innovation in Road Vehicle Emissions Control written by . This book was released on 2020. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European Commission has recently launched the process of developing stricter emissions standards (post-Euro 6/VI) for all petrol and diesel cars, vans, lorries and buses. To ensure vehicles on European roads are clean over their lifetime, the proposed rules will consider new vehicle technologies and ensure emissions are measured on the road. The initiative is part of the European Green Deal and the European Union's (EU) commitment to accelerate the shift to sustainable and smart mobility. The main objective of this report is to contribute to the development of future European road vehicle emission standards by assessing the most relevant publicly funded research and innovation (R&I) projects and initiatives carried out in Europe after 2015. The assessment is largely based on the European Commission's Transport Research and Innovation Monitoring and Information System (TRIMIS) methodology for monitoring the progress of the Strategic Transport Research and Innovation Agenda (STRIA) roadmaps and analyses technology trends and R&I capacities in the European transport sector. The report provides a brief overview of the evolution of EU road vehicle pollutant emissions standards, a review of the most recent relevant research conducted at the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC), and an analysis of publicly funded R&I projects in Europe addressing vehicle emissions, including a qualitative analysis and an assessment of the main conclusions. It concludes by summarising the main findings and providing recommendations to policy makers.

Book Synopsis Towards a Climate-Neutral Europe by : Jos Delbeke

Download or read book Towards a Climate-Neutral Europe written by Jos Delbeke. This book was released on 2019-10-16. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains the EU’s climate policies in an accessible way, to demonstrate the step-by-step approach that has been used to develop these policies, and the ways in which they have been tested and further improved in the light of experience. The latest changes to the legislation are fully explained throughout. The chapters throughout this volume show that no single policy instrument can bring down greenhouse gas emissions. The challenge facing the EU, as for many countries that have made pledges under the Paris Agreement, is to put together a toolbox of policy instruments that is coherent, delivers emissions reductions, and is cost-effective. The book stands out by the fact it covers the EU’s emissions trading system, the energy sector and other economic sectors, including their development in the context of international climate policy. This accessible book will be of great relevance to students, scholars and policy makers alike. Book Synopsis The European Emission Trading System and Its Followers by : Simone Borghesi

Download or read book The European Emission Trading System and Its Followers written by Simone Borghesi. This book was released on 2016-04-16. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given the rapid spread of ETSs in an increasing number of countries and the important role that they are likely to play for the success or failure of the environmental policy in the years to come, this book provides an interdisciplinary analysis of the EU ETS from both the legal and economic perspectives comparing it with the other main ETSs existing worldwide, in order to assess whether the EU ETS has truly represented a prototype for the other ETSs established around the world and to investigate the current perspectives for linking them in the future.Through the years, the EU ETS has progressively gained a paramount position within the EU environmental policy and climate change legislation and currently represents the most striking flagship in this sector, with more than 11.000 installations covered by the scheme. In parallel, the EU ETS has paved the way for the establishment of many other ETSs in several other jurisdictions. Such schemes are now recognized worldwide as the “cornerstones” of the climate change policy.
