Book excerpt: Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2010 in the subject Computer Sciences - Artificial Intelligence, grade: PhD, Korea University, Seoul (College of Engineering - Dept of Industrial Systems and Information Engineering), course: Intelligence Control and Artificial Intelligence, language: English, abstract: Fuzzy Logic (FL) is a particular area of interest in the study of Artificial intelligence (AI) based on the idea that in fuzzy sets each element in the set can assume a value from 0 to 1, not just 0 or 1, as in classic or crisp set theory. The gradation in the extent to which an element is belonging to the relevant sets is called the degree of membership. This degree of membership is a measure of the element’s belonging to the set, and thus of the precision with which it explains the phenomenon being evaluated. A linguistic expression is given to each fuzzy set. The information contents of the fuzzy rules are then used to infer the output using a suitable inference engine. The key contribution of fuzzy logic in computation of information described in natural language made it applicable to a variety of applications and problem domains; from simple control systems to human decision support systems. Yet, despite its long-standing origins, it is a relatively new field, and as such leaves much room for development. The thesis presents two novel applications of fuzzy systems; a human decision support system to help teachers to fairly evaluate students and two hybrid intelligent fuzzy systems; a type-2 fuzzy logic system and a combined type-1 fuzzy logic system and extended Kalamn filter for controlling systems operating under high levels of uncertainties due to various sources of measurement and modeling errors. The combination of fuzzy logic and the classical student evaluation approach produces easy to understand transparent decision model that can be easily understood by students and teachers alike. The developed architecture overcomes the problem of ranking students with the same score. It also incorporated different dimensions of evaluation by considering subjective factors such as difficulty, complexity and importance of the questions. Although we discuss this approach with an example from the area of student evaluation, this method evidently has wide applications in other areas of decision making including student’s project evaluation, learning management systems evaluation, as well as, other assessment applications. Book Synopsis Fuzzy Logic by : Jenny Carter

Download or read book Fuzzy Logic written by Jenny Carter. This book was released on 2021-05-04. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its inception, fuzzy logic has attracted an incredible amount of interest, and this interest continues to grow at an exponential rate. As such, scientists, researchers, educators and practitioners of fuzzy logic continue to expand on the applicability of what and how fuzzy can be utilised in the real-world. In this book, the authors present key application areas where fuzzy has had significant success. The chapters cover a plethora of application domains, proving credence to the versatility and robustness of a fuzzy approach. A better understanding of fuzzy will ultimately allow for a better appreciation of fuzzy. This book provides the reader with a varied range of examples to illustrate what fuzzy logic can be capable of and how it can be applied. The text will be ideal for individuals new to the notion of fuzzy, as well as for early career academics who wish to further expand on their knowledge of fuzzy applications. The book is also suitable as a supporting text for advanced undergraduate and graduate-level modules on fuzzy logic, soft computing, and applications of AI.

Book Synopsis Recent Developments in Fuzzy Logic and Fuzzy Sets by : Shahnaz N. Shahbazova

Download or read book Recent Developments in Fuzzy Logic and Fuzzy Sets written by Shahnaz N. Shahbazova. This book was released on 2020-03-05. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a timely and comprehensive overview of current theories and methods in fuzzy logic, as well as relevant applications in a variety of fields of science and technology. Dedicated to Lotfi A. Zadeh on his one year death anniversary, the book goes beyond a pure commemorative text. Yet, it offers a fresh perspective on a number of relevant topics, such as computing with words, theory of perceptions, possibility theory, and decision-making in a fuzzy environment. Written by Zadeh’s closest colleagues and friends, the different chapters are intended both as a timely reference guide and a source of inspiration for scientists, developers and researchers who have been dealing with fuzzy sets or would like to learn more about their potential for their future research.

Download or read book Advanced Fuzzy Logic Technologies in Industrial Applications written by Ying Bai. This book was released on 2007-01-17. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces a dynamic, on-line fuzzy inference system. In this system membership functions and control rules are not determined until the system is applied and each output of its lookup table is calculated based on current inputs. The book describes the real-world uses of new fuzzy techniques to simplify readers’ tuning processes and enhance the performance of their control systems. It further contains application examples.
