Book Synopsis Multidisciplinary Aspects of Design by : Francesca Zanella

Download or read book Multidisciplinary Aspects of Design written by Francesca Zanella. This book was released on 2023-12-30. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book gathers the contributions from the Design! OPEN International Conference, held in Parma, Italy in May 2022. The conference explored the multidisciplinary aspects of design starting from its dimensions: objects (design as focused on the object, on its functional and symbolic dimension, and at the same time on the object as a tool for representing cultures), processes (the designer’s self-reflective moment which is focused on the analysis and on the definition of processes in various contexts, spanning innovation, social engagement, reflection on emergencies or forecasting), experiences (design as a theoretical and practical strategy aimed at facilitating experiential interactions among people, people and objects or environments), and narratives (making history, representing through different media, archiving, narrating, and exhibiting design). The contributions, which were selected by means of a rigorous international peer-review process, highlight numerous exciting ideas that will spur novel research directions and foster multidisciplinary collaboration among different specialists.

Book Synopsis Mind and Places by : Anna Anzani

Download or read book Mind and Places written by Anna Anzani. This book was released on 2020-05-12. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the contributions of psychological, neuroscientific and philosophical perspectives to the design of contemporary cities. Pursuing an innovative and multidisciplinary approach, it addresses the need to re-launch knowledge and creativity as major cultural and institutional bases of human communities. Dwelling is a form of knowledge and re-invention of reality that involves both the tangible dimension of physical places and their mental representation. Findings in the neuroscientific field are increasingly opening stimulating perspectives on the design of spaces, and highlight how our ability to understand other people is strongly related to our corporeity. The first part of the book focuses on the contributions of various disciplines that deal with the spatial dimension, and explores the dovetailing roles that science and art can play from a multidisciplinary perspective. In turn, the second part formulates proposals on how to promote greater integration between the aesthetic and cultural dimension in spatial design. Given its scope, the book will benefit all scholars, academics and practitioners who are involved in the process of planning, designing and building places, and will foster an international exchange of research, case studies, and theoretical reflections to confront the challenges of designing conscious places and enable the development of communities.

Book Synopsis Systems Design and Engineering by : G. Maarten Bonnema

Download or read book Systems Design and Engineering written by G. Maarten Bonnema. This book was released on 2016-01-05. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Systems Engineering is gaining importance in the high-tech industry with systems like digital single-lens reflex cameras, medical imaging scanners, and industrial production systems. Such systems require new methods that can handle uncertainty in the early phases of development, that systems engineering can provide. This book offers a toolbox approach by presenting the tools and illustrating their application with examples. This results in an emphasis on the design of systems, more than on analysis and classical systems engineering. The book is useful for those who need an introduction to system design and engineering, and those who work with system engineers, designers and architects.

Book Synopsis Multidisciplinary Design Optimization Supported by Knowledge Based Engineering by : Jaroslaw Sobieszczanski-Sobieski

Download or read book Multidisciplinary Design Optimization Supported by Knowledge Based Engineering written by Jaroslaw Sobieszczanski-Sobieski. This book was released on 2015-09-28. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multidisciplinary Design Optimization supported by Knowledge Based Engineering supports engineers confronting this daunting and new design paradigm. It describes methodology for conducting a system design in a systematic and rigorous manner that supports human creativity to optimize the design objective(s) subject to constraints and uncertainties. The material presented builds on decades of experience in Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) methods, progress in concurrent computing, and Knowledge Based Engineering (KBE) tools. Key features: Comprehensively covers MDO and is the only book to directly link this with KBE methods Provides a pathway through basic optimization methods to MDO methods Directly links design optimization methods to the massively concurrent computing technology Emphasizes real world engineering design practice in the application of optimization methods Multidisciplinary Design Optimization supported by Knowledge Based Engineering is a one-stop-shop guide to the state-of-the-art tools in the MDO and KBE disciplines for systems design engineers and managers. Graduate or post-graduate students can use it to support their design courses, and researchers or developers of computer-aided design methods will find it useful as a wide-ranging reference.
