Book Synopsis Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Techniques in Waste Management by : Suchismita Satapathy

Download or read book Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Techniques in Waste Management written by Suchismita Satapathy. This book was released on 2021-09-30. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the problem of waste management by using multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods. The authors discuss how to apply MCDM, a complex decision-making tool that involves both quantitative and qualitative factors, to develop strategies for effective waste management using various optimization models to rank alternatives, while also incorporating the concerns and needs of multiple stakeholders to find the most optimal decisions for various types of wastes. Typically, there does not exist a single optimal solution to waste problems; with help of MCDM, far better solutions can often be found and utilized to facilitate sustainable waste management techniques in various industries. This book provides unique, effective, and quick decision-making strategies for waste management. With the ever-increasing population and continuing human development, the problem of managing waste becomes increasingly essential, and this volume helps lead the way to finding sustainable solutions.

Book Synopsis Weighting Methods and their Effects on Multi-Criteria Decision Making Model Outcomes in Water Resources Management by : Noorul Hassan Zardari

Download or read book Weighting Methods and their Effects on Multi-Criteria Decision Making Model Outcomes in Water Resources Management written by Noorul Hassan Zardari. This book was released on 2014-10-30. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a systematic way of how to make better decisions in water resources management. The applications of three weighting methods namely rating, ranking, and ratio are discussed in this book. Additionally, data mining on keywords is presented using three popular scholarly databases: Science Direct, Scopus, and SciVerse. Four abbreviated keywords (MCDM, MCDA, MCA, MADM) representing multi-criteria decision-making were used and these three databases were searched for different popular weighting methods for a period of 13 years (2000-2012). The book provides also a review of weighting methods applied in various multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods and also presents survey results on priority ranking of watershed management criteria undertaken by 30 undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

Book Synopsis Sustainable Solid Waste Collection and Management by : Ana Pires

Download or read book Sustainable Solid Waste Collection and Management written by Ana Pires. This book was released on 2018-09-20. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume focuses on the collection of waste and waste streams as an integral aspect of sustainable waste management. The authors take economic models and behavioral studies into account to go beyond just descriptions of waste collections technologies and collection route design. Models and tools for sustainable waste collection are described in detail, and the authors provide a comprehensive, integrated methodology to design waste collection systems that reduce environmental impacts, are economically viable, and achieve buy-in and participation from target populations. Part I of the book provides fundamentals and context on waste hierarchy, including waste prevention, reduction and reuse, waste collection itself, and steps such as preparation for recycling, recycling, treatment, and landfilling. Background in environmental, social, and economic concerns surrounding waste collection is also provided here. Part II addresses tools for design, operation, and maintenance of waste collection systems. Part III focuses on how the tools presented in Part II can be used to support sustainability assessments and decisions that consider the entire life cycle of waste and the role of waste collection programs in waste prevention, reduction, reuse, recycling, treatment, and disposal. Part IV addresses the challenges of developing sustainable waste management systems and addresses the role of waste collection in sustainable waste management in the future.

Book Synopsis Decision Support Frameworks in Solid Waste Management by : Jenny Gutierrez-Lopez

Download or read book Decision Support Frameworks in Solid Waste Management written by Jenny Gutierrez-Lopez. This book was released on 2023. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Waste management is a critical sector that needs to coordinate its activities with outcomes that impact society. Multi-criteria decision-making methods for waste management have been widely considered using both, environmental and economic criteria. With the development of new social regulations and concerns, sustainable waste management needs to additionally target socially acceptable practices. Despite the need to aid solid waste management decision makers in contemplating the three pillars of sustainability, limited inclusion of social impacts has been found in the multi-objective decision making literature. This study presents a systematic literature review on multi-criteria decision-making methods in solid waste management. The purposes of this study are threefold: (1) Emphasize the application of multi-objective decision-making methods, summarizing the models that have been used and their applications; (2) Provide insights in the quantification of social aspects and their inclusion in decision-making methods, providing a list of social indicators collected from the reviewed studies; (3) Offer analysis of stakeholders' involvement into the optimization framework. From the articles investigated, one can observe the importance of understanding the local context in which the waste management system is located, and the essentiality of community consultation to recognize potential challenges and improvements to solid waste management systems. Consequently, the involvement of stakeholders is crucial during the quantification process of social indicators.

Book Synopsis Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Techniques for Improvement Sustainability Engineering Processes by : Edmundas Kazimieras Zavadskas

Download or read book Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Techniques for Improvement Sustainability Engineering Processes written by Edmundas Kazimieras Zavadskas. This book was released on 2020-12-15. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The success of any activity and process depends fundamentally on the possibility of balancing (symmetry) needs and their satisfaction. That is, the ability to properly define a set of success indicators. The application of the developed new multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods can be eliminated or decreased by decision-makers’ subjectivity, which leads to consistency or symmetry in the weight values of the criteria. In this Special Issue, 40 research papers and one review study co-authored by 137 researchers from 23 different countries explore aspects of multi-criteria modeling and optimization in crisp or uncertain environments. The papers propose new approaches and elaborate case studies in the following areas of application: MCDM optimization in sustainable engineering, environmental sustainability in engineering processes, sustainable multi-criteria production and logistics processes planning, integrated approaches for modeling processes in engineering, new trends in the multi-criteria evaluation of sustainable processes, and multi-criteria decision-making in strategic management based on sustainable criteria.
