Book Synopsis A Mountain of Evidence by : Pastor Randy French

Download or read book A Mountain of Evidence written by Pastor Randy French. This book was released on 2020-09-01. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wouldn’t you like to know today the standard by which you will be judged in eternity tomorrow? That is exactly what Jesus does in the greatest sermon ever told, The Sermon on the Mount. Jesus said, “For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven,” (Mt 5:20). This “opener” provides the basis for His sermon which spans three chapters in Matthew. In it, Jesus provides for us a comparison between two kingdoms: the kingdom of heaven and the kingdom of self. In His sermon, Jesus gives us all insight into what a true Christian looks like, acts like, sounds like, and even thinks like. The Pharisees were known for their strict adherence to the law and their traditions. Jesus makes it clear to them and to us in this sermon, that adherence to the law will not count for eternity. Only by clothing oneself in Christ’s righteousness can one hope for eternal life. The world and even the Church at times, attempts to redefine a Christian in a way that “cheapens” Christianity to make it more palatable and pleasing to the un-believer. Pastor and Martyr Dietrich Bonhoeffer called this “cheap grace.” But the true Christian will not be measured by the world’s or even the church’s standards. Each and every person will stand before a righteous Judge, and be made to give an account for his or her life according to God’s Word. This book is a line-by-line explanation of Christ’s expectations for every person who professes to be saved by the blood of Jesus Christ. In essence, it is a manual to help us all to understand what it means to be a Christian.

She didn't listen. All Kim Jackson wants to do is live under the radar in a town where no one knows she was once an accounting manager at a Fortune 500 company-or that she's been framed for corporate fraud and murder. Instead, she gets involved in a homicide investigation. High school senior Emily Riley made no secret of her desire to escape her hometown in the shadow of the San Juan Mountains. Locals thought she had left, until Emily's murdered body is discovered at the base of Red Mountain. Kim Jackson steps in when she senses the investigation going cold. Using her advantage as an unbiased outsider, Kim seeks to understand who Emily was and who might have wanted her dead. As she gets closer to finding out what happened to Emily, Kim underestimates how much exposing the truth will cost her. A Mountain of Evidence is the first book in the Colorado Skies mystery series. It follows a woman desperately aiming to solve a murder while struggling to come to grips with what she's lost-her past.

Book Synopsis The Evidence of Things Not Seen by : James Baldwin

Download or read book The Evidence of Things Not Seen written by James Baldwin. This book was released on 2023-01-17. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over twenty-two months in 1979 and 1981 nearly two dozen children were unspeakably murdered in Atlanta despite national attention and outcry; they were all Black. James Baldwin investigated these murders, the Black administration in Atlanta, and Wayne Williams, the Black man tried for the crimes. Because there was only evidence to convict Williams for the murders of two men, the children's cases were closed, offering no justice to the families or the country. Baldwin's incisive analysis implicates the failures of integration as the guilt party, arguing, "There could be no more devastating proof of this assault than the slaughter of the children." As Stacey Abrams writes in her foreword, "The humanity of black children, of black men and women, of black lives, has ever been a conundrum for America. Forty years on, Baldwin's writing reminds us that we have never resolved the core query: Do black lives matter? Unequivocally, the moral answer is yes, but James Baldwin refuses such rhetorical comfort." In this, his last book, by excavating American race relations Baldwin exposes the hard-to-face ingrained issues and demands that we all reckon with them.
