Book Synopsis Morphology of Right Atrium Myocytes by : Marina L. Bugrova

Download or read book Morphology of Right Atrium Myocytes written by Marina L. Bugrova. This book was released on 2018. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chapter of this book is devoted to characteristics of the ultrastructure and function of secretory cardiac myocytes of the right atrium in norm and the experimental pathology in rats. The data were obtained at various models, such as clinical death, renovascular hypertension in rats, and in the isolated Langendorff-perfused rat hearts. We investigated the effect of the drug Mexidol on morphological and functional characteristics of endocrine cardiac myocytes in rats and in the isolated heart. Quantitative data on intracellular structures of atrial myocytes were presented. We estimated the accumulation of the atrial natriuretic peptide in granules and excretion into the sarcoplasm in secretory cardiac myocytes. The results were obtained using the methods of transmission electron microscopy and immunocytochemistry. The study makes an important contribution to histology and improves the understanding of the function of the heart as an endocrine organ. This chapter is intended for students of medical and biological universities and for experts.

Book Synopsis Muscle Cell and Tissue by : Kunihiro Sakuma

Download or read book Muscle Cell and Tissue written by Kunihiro Sakuma. This book was released on 2018-10-10. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to complete tissue regeneration, various cells (neuronal, skeletal and smooth) interact coordinately with each other. This book, Muscle Cell and Tissue - Current Status of Research Field, deals with current progress and perspectives in a variety of topics on the skeletal and smooth muscle, stem cells, regeneration, disease or therapeutics. Novel applications for cell and tissue engineering including cell therapy, tissue models and disease pathology modeling are introduced. This book also deals with the differentiation/de-differentiation process of vascular smooth muscle cells in health and disease. Furthermore, natural products to reverse metabolic syndromes are descriptively reviewed. These chapters can be interesting for graduate students, teachers, physicians, executives and researchers in the field of molecular biology and regenerative medicine.

Book Synopsis Functional Morphology of the Endocrine Heart by : Wolf-Georg Forssmann

Download or read book Functional Morphology of the Endocrine Heart written by Wolf-Georg Forssmann. This book was released on 1989. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1956, Bruno Kisch (90) discovered a special form of myocyte in the guinea pig heart atrium which contained peculiar, dense inclusions, but it was not before the early 1980s that cardiac hormones were isolated and characterized independently and almost simultaneously by several working groups. In 1964 Jamieson and Palade (84) were the first to postulate the secretory nature of the atrial myocytes and their specific granules. In 1976, Marie et al. (103) revealed the relation of the granular index of these atrial cells with the water- electrolyte balance of the body fluid. The biological effects of purified atrial extracts, i. e. , the diuretic and vasorelaxant effects, were detected in the early 1980s, (26,35,38,56). Now, a series of polypeptides, of the same family, and all derived from a homologous precursor in the different species are know to exert the diuretic and vasorelaxant effects. This development of the discovery of a peptide hormone is unparalleled in the sense that it was mostly morphologists who contributed to the final characterization of these cardiac hormones. Thus, it was a great honor for us to be given the opportunity on the occasion of the 8th European Anatomical Congress to organize a special satellite symposium on the rapidly growing field of research in cardiac endocrinology. The symposium "Functional Endocrinology of the Endocrine Heart" was planned as an interdisciplinary meeting to enable anatomists to follow recent advances in cardiac endocrinology.

Book Synopsis Cardiology Explained by : Euan A. Ashley

Download or read book Cardiology Explained written by Euan A. Ashley. This book was released on 2004. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most time-consuming tasks in clinical medicine is seeking the opinions of specialist colleagues. There is a pressure not only to make referrals appropriate but also to summarize the case in the language of the specialist. This book explains basic physiologic and pathophysiologic mechanisms of cardiovascular disease in a straightforward manner, gives guidelines as to when referral is appropriate, and, uniquely, explains what the specialist is likely to do. It is ideal for any hospital doctor, generalist, or even senior medical student who may need a cardiology opinion, or for that ma.
