Book Synopsis Molecular Strategies of Pathogens and Host Plants by : Suresh S. Patil

Download or read book Molecular Strategies of Pathogens and Host Plants written by Suresh S. Patil. This book was released on 2014-11-14. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of the molecular basis of plant disease is rapidly developing. The nineteen chapters of current information in Molecular Strategies of Pathogens and Host Plants are written by well known experts in the United States and Japan, and cover recent progress in the genetics and molecular biology of bacteria and fungi which are pathogens of plants. This research emphasizes the genes which are responsible for production of toxins, enzymes, and hormones that lead to pathogenicity and specificity in plant-pathogen interactions. Several chapters also examine the biochemistry of the plant's response to microbial attack.

Book Synopsis Plant Pathology Concepts and Laboratory Exercises, Second Edition by : Robert N. Trigiano

Download or read book Plant Pathology Concepts and Laboratory Exercises, Second Edition written by Robert N. Trigiano. This book was released on 2007-11-30. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revised and updated with new concepts, case studies, and laboratory exercises, Plant Pathology Concepts and Laboratory Exercises, Second Edition supplies highly detailed and accurate information in a well-organized and accessible format. New additions to the second edition include five new topic and exercise chapters on soilborne pathogens, molecular tools, biocontrol, and plant-fungal interactions, information on in vitro pathology, an appendix on plant pathology careers, and how to use and care for the microscope. An accompanying cd-rom contains figures from the text as well as supplemental full-color photos and PowerPoint slides. Unique Learning Tools Retaining the informal style of the previous edition, this volume begins each topic with a concept box to highlight important ideas. Several laboratory exercises support each topic and cater to a wide range of skill sets from basic to complex. Procedure boxes for the experimental exercises give detailed outlines and comments on the experiments, step by step instruction, anticipated results, and thought provoking questions. Case studies of specific diseases and processes are presented as a bulleted list supplying essential information at a glance. Comprehensive Coverage Divided into six primary parts, this valuable reference introduces basic concepts of plant pathology with historical perspectives, fundamental ideas of disease, and disease relationships with the environment. It details various disease-causing organisms including viruses, prokaryotic organisms, plant parasitic nematodes, fungi, plant parasitic seed plants, and other biotic and abiotic diseases. Exploring various plant-pathogen interactions including treatments of molecular attack strategies, extracellular enzymes, host defenses, and disruption of plant function, the book presents the basic ideas of epidemiology, control strategies, and disease diagnosis.

Book Synopsis Molecular Biology in Plant Pathogenesis and Disease Management by : P. Narayanasamy

Download or read book Molecular Biology in Plant Pathogenesis and Disease Management written by P. Narayanasamy. This book was released on 2008-04-29. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies on molecular biology of pathogens, infection process and disease resistance, have provided information essentially required to understand the vulnerable stages at which the pathogens can be tackled effectively and to adopt novel strategies to incorporate disease resistance genes from diverse sources and /or to induce resistance of cultivars with desirable agronomic attributes using biotic or abiotic agents. The nature of interaction between the gene products of the pathogen and plant appears to determine the outcome of the interaction resulting in either disease progression or suppression. Transgenic plants with engineered genes show promise for effective exploitation of this approach for practical application. Research efforts during the recent years to sequence the whole genomes of the pathogens and plants may lead to development of better ways of manipulating disease resistance mechanisms enabling the grower to achieve higher production levels and the consumer to enjoy safer food and agricultural products. Experimental protocols included in appropriate chapters will be useful for researchers and graduate students.
