Book Synopsis Managing Medical Technological Innovations: Exploring Multiple Perspectives by : Tugrul U Daim

Download or read book Managing Medical Technological Innovations: Exploring Multiple Perspectives written by Tugrul U Daim. This book was released on 2019-12-23. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the issue of modern medical innovations management through an inductive approach by looking into cases before putting forward solutions in terms of strategies and tools. It provides a model for the designing and implementation of effective healthcare technology management (HTM) systems in hospitals and healthcare provider settings, as well as promotes a new method of analysis of hospital organization for decision-making regarding technology to show how systematic management using a strategy that balances bottom-up and top-down driven innovations, can deliver better medical technological advances.Managing Medical Technological Innovations is organized in three parts. Part 1 covers innovation strategies, laying the groundwork and concepts in design thinking. Part 2 follows by presenting the tools available for implementation. And finally, Part 3 uses the case studies of pharmaceutical firms in China and hospital medical record management in Holland to illustrate how these ideas and methodologies have been applied. This book is suitable for healthcare administrators, management, and IT personnel involved in the planning, expansion and maintaining of healthcare technology management and organisation seeking a reference with most recent approaches and cases from an international context; researchers seeking new approaches to apply to emerging medical technologies in different regions; and graduate students who are either doing their research or taking introductory as well as advanced courses in engineering and technology management in different parts of the world.

Book Synopsis Innovation in Pharmacy: Advances and Perspectives. September 2018 by : Organizer Committee IPAP18 – Salamanca

Download or read book Innovation in Pharmacy: Advances and Perspectives. September 2018 written by Organizer Committee IPAP18 – Salamanca. This book was released on 2018-09-21. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the summaries of the "Innovation in Pharmacy: Advances and Perspectives" that took place in Salamanca (Spain) in September 2018. The early science of chemistry and microbiology were the source of most drugs until the revolution of genetic engineering in the mid 1970s. Then biotechnology made available novel protein agents such as interferons, blood factors and monoclonal antibodies that have changed the modern pharmacy. Over the past year, a new pharmacy of oligonucleotides has emerged from the science of gene expression such as RNA splicing and RNA interference. The ability to design therapeutic agents from genomic sequences will transform treatment for many diseases. The science that created this advance and its future promise will be discussed. Phillip Allen Sharp is an American geneticist and molecular biologist who co-discovered RNA splicing. He shared the 1993 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Richard J. Roberts for “the discovery that genes in eukaryotes are not contiguous strings but contain introns, and that the splicing of messenger RNA to delete those introns can occur in different ways, yielding different proteins from the same DNA sequence. He works in Institute Professor Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, MA, US. UU.

Book Synopsis Modern Methods of Clinical Investigation by : Institute of Medicine

Download or read book Modern Methods of Clinical Investigation written by Institute of Medicine. This book was released on 1990-02-01. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The very rapid pace of advances in biomedical research promises us a wide range of new drugs, medical devices, and clinical procedures. The extent to which these discoveries will benefit the public, however, depends in large part on the methods we choose for developing and testing them. Modern Methods of Clinical Investigation focuses on strategies for clinical evaluation and their role in uncovering the actual benefits and risks of medical innovation. Essays explore differences in our current systems for evaluating drugs, medical devices, and clinical procedures; health insurance databases as a tool for assessing treatment outcomes; the role of the medical profession, the Food and Drug Administration, and industry in stimulating the use of evaluative methods; and more. This book will be of special interest to policymakers, regulators, executives in the medical industry, clinical researchers, and physicians.

Book Synopsis New Medicines, the Practice of Medicine, and Public Policy by : Sir Richard Sykes

Download or read book New Medicines, the Practice of Medicine, and Public Policy written by Sir Richard Sykes. This book was released on 2000. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This essay - by the chairman of Glaxo Wellcome Plc - takes a strategic view of how innovation in the development of medicines will impact on the practice of medicine and the delivery of healthcare in the first two decades of the 21st century. It opens with a brief review of the impact of modern medicines on society and goes on to describe some of the new processes that are transforming the processes of medicines and what this will mean for the biopharmaceutical industry, and consequently medical practice. A vision of how medical practice could develop and policy issues related to this are discussed in further chapters. The emphasis in the book is on global developments and global issues using country-specific examples only when necessary. A broad industry perspective is also taken.
