Download or read book Mission Advanced Road Safety 2019–2024 (An Insight into Road Traffic Accidents on Indian Motorways) written by Praveenchandra Shetty. This book was released on 2019-07-24. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive Road Safety Guide in the form of a Practical Handbook illustrates how Improperly Designed and Poorly Constructed Roads and Highways remained as Passive Causes of Road Traffic Accidents that claim approximately 1.42 to 1.45 lac lives annually since last few years, for no fault of road users. The author drove 19,110 kms in 58 days on outer peripheral National Highways, connecting State Highways, City, Town and Village Roads prior to authoring this book to collect first hand information and ground realities of roads in India. He categorized such defects as Passive Causes of Road Traffic Accidents and Deaths, and documented them for the first time in India. He disproved the general belief that the majority of Road Traffic Accidents and Deaths are caused due to Over Speeding & Drunken Driving on handling 12,383 motor accident insurance claims. Through an in-depth study, he concluded that 57.5% Road Traffic Accidents are caused due to Improper Road Design, Poor Construction Quality and Defects on the Roads and Highways. Such Observational Research is not carried out anywhere in the world till date.

Book Synopsis Environmental Noise Pollution by : Enda Murphy

Download or read book Environmental Noise Pollution written by Enda Murphy. This book was released on 2014-04-21. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental Noise Pollution: Noise Mapping, Public Health and Policy addresses the key debates surrounding environmental noise pollution with a particular focus on the European Union. Environmental noise pollution is an emerging public policy and environmental concern and is considered to be one of the most important environmental stressors affecting public health throughout the world. This book examines environmental noise pollution, its health implications, the role of strategic noise mapping for problem assessment, major sources of environmental noise pollution, noise mitigation approaches, and related procedural and policy implications. Drawing on the authors' considerable research expertise in the area, the book is the first coherent work on this major environmental stressor, a new benchmark reference across disciplinary, policy and national boundaries. - Highlights recent developments in the policy arena with particular focus on developments in the EU within the context of the European Noise Directive - Explores the lessons emerging from nations within the EU and other jurisdictions attempting to legislate and mitigate against the harmful effects of noise pollution - Covers the core theoretical concepts and principles surrounding the mechanics of noise pollution as well as the evidence-base linking noise with public health concerns

Book Synopsis Nonlinear Model Predictive Control by : Frank Allgöwer

Download or read book Nonlinear Model Predictive Control written by Frank Allgöwer. This book was released on 2012-12-06. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past decade model predictive control (MPC), also referred to as receding horizon control or moving horizon control, has become the preferred control strategy for quite a number of industrial processes. There have been many significant advances in this area over the past years, one of the most important ones being its extension to nonlinear systems. This book gives an up-to-date assessment of the current state of the art in the new field of nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC). The main topic areas that appear to be of central importance for NMPC are covered, namely receding horizon control theory, modeling for NMPC, computational aspects of on-line optimization and application issues. The book consists of selected papers presented at the International Symposium on Nonlinear Model Predictive Control – Assessment and Future Directions, which took place from June 3 to 5, 1998, in Ascona, Switzerland. The book is geared towards researchers and practitioners in the area of control engineering and control theory. It is also suited for postgraduate students as the book contains several overview articles that give a tutorial introduction into the various aspects of nonlinear model predictive control, including systems theory, computations, modeling and applications.

Book Synopsis Integrating Disaster Science and Management by : Pijush Samui

Download or read book Integrating Disaster Science and Management written by Pijush Samui. This book was released on 2018-05-04. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrated Disaster Science and Management: Global Case Studies in Mitigation and Recovery bridges the gap between scientific research on natural disasters and the practice of disaster management. It examines natural hazards, including earthquakes, landslides and tsunamis, and uses integrated disaster management techniques, quantitative methods and big data analytics to create early warning models to mitigate impacts of these hazards and reduce the risk of disaster. It also looks at mitigation as part of the recovery process after a disaster, as in the case of the Nepal earthquake. Edited by global experts in disaster management and engineering, the book offers case studies that focus on the critical phases of disaster management. - Identifies advanced techniques and models based on natural disaster science for forecasting disasters and analyzing risk - Offers a holistic approach to the problem of disaster management, including preparation, recovery, and resilience - Includes coverage of social, economic, and environmental impacts on disasters
