It is 68 miles northwest of Charlotte, with cities of winston-salem and Greensboro, northeastward 100 miles and 132 miles respectively. Morganton is overnight distance by Southern Railway from New York City. It is a 30 minute drive up N. C. Scenic highway 181 to the Blue Ridge Park way.
