Book Synopsis Homeless Not Hopeless by : Edna Molina-Jackson

Download or read book Homeless Not Hopeless written by Edna Molina-Jackson. This book was released on 2008-08-28. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of moving toward a national policy to end homelessness is crucial. In this striking examination of the roles that homeless people and the U.S. government play in causing and curtailing the escalating phenomena of homelessness, Edna Molina-Jackson asserts that there is a great need to alter the socio-economic structures that generate extreme and entrenched forms of poverty that lead to homelessness. Homeless Not Hopeless explores the role social networks play in the daily survival of homeless Latino and African American men. Using a qualitative research design, author Molina-Jackson observes how these men initiate, participate in, and maintain social networks and how these networks function. The findings support a more empowering view of homeless men as active, rational, and competent actors engaged in negotiating their social world. Members rely on social networks composed of a hierarchy of casual and intimate affiliations. The networks of Americanized Latinos and African Americans facilitate their integration into a subculture of street life, while those of recent-immigrant Latinos revolve around their struggles to find work, avoid deportation, and enlist the support of paisanos.

Book Synopsis A fuego lento by : Emilio Bobadilla

Download or read book A fuego lento written by Emilio Bobadilla. This book was released on 2019-03-01. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis War in Heaven by : Gavin G. Smith

Download or read book War in Heaven written by Gavin G. Smith. This book was released on 2011-09-15. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The high-powered sequel to VETERAN sees an unlikely hero make an even more unlikely return to take the reader back into a vividly rendered bleak future. But a bleak future where there are still wonders: man travelling out into the universe, Bladerunneresque cities hanging from the ceilings of vast caverns, aliens that we can barely comprehend. Gavin Smith writes fast-moving, incredibly violent SF thrillers but behind the violence and the thrills lies a carefully thought out story and characters who have far more to them than first meets the eye. Never one to avoid controversy Gavin Smith nevertheless invites you to think beyond the initial shock of what you have just read. But in the meantime? Another fire-fight, another chase another flight of imagination.
