Book excerpt: Based on the author’s experience in teaching data science for more than 10 years, Mathematics and Programming for Machine Learning with R: From the Ground Up reveals how machine learning algorithms do their magic and explains how these algorithms can be implemented in code. It is designed to provide readers with an understanding of the reasoning behind machine learning algorithms as well as how to program them. Written for novice programmers, the book progresses step-by-step, providing the coding skills needed to implement machine learning algorithms in R. The book begins with simple implementations and fundamental concepts of logic, sets, and probability before moving to the coverage of powerful deep learning algorithms. The first eight chapters deal with probability-based machine learning algorithms, and the last eight chapters deal with machine learning based on artificial neural networks. The first half of the book does not require mathematical sophistication, although familiarity with probability and statistics would be helpful. The second half assumes the reader is familiar with at least one semester of calculus. The text guides novice R programmers through algorithms and their application and along the way; the reader gains programming confidence in tackling advanced R programming challenges. Highlights of the book include: More than 400 exercises A strong emphasis on improving programming skills and guiding beginners to the implementation of full-fledged algorithms Coverage of fundamental computer and mathematical concepts including logic, sets, and probability In-depth explanations of machine learning algorithms

Book Synopsis Mathematics for Machine Learning by : Marc Peter Deisenroth

Download or read book Mathematics for Machine Learning written by Marc Peter Deisenroth. This book was released on 2020-04-23. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fundamental mathematical tools needed to understand machine learning include linear algebra, analytic geometry, matrix decompositions, vector calculus, optimization, probability and statistics. These topics are traditionally taught in disparate courses, making it hard for data science or computer science students, or professionals, to efficiently learn the mathematics. This self-contained textbook bridges the gap between mathematical and machine learning texts, introducing the mathematical concepts with a minimum of prerequisites. It uses these concepts to derive four central machine learning methods: linear regression, principal component analysis, Gaussian mixture models and support vector machines. For students and others with a mathematical background, these derivations provide a starting point to machine learning texts. For those learning the mathematics for the first time, the methods help build intuition and practical experience with applying mathematical concepts. Every chapter includes worked examples and exercises to test understanding. Programming tutorials are offered on the book's web site.

Book Synopsis Programming Machine Learning by : Paolo Perrotta

Download or read book Programming Machine Learning written by Paolo Perrotta. This book was released on 2020-03-31. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You've decided to tackle machine learning - because you're job hunting, embarking on a new project, or just think self-driving cars are cool. But where to start? It's easy to be intimidated, even as a software developer. The good news is that it doesn't have to be that hard. Master machine learning by writing code one line at a time, from simple learning programs all the way to a true deep learning system. Tackle the hard topics by breaking them down so they're easier to understand, and build your confidence by getting your hands dirty. Peel away the obscurities of machine learning, starting from scratch and going all the way to deep learning. Machine learning can be intimidating, with its reliance on math and algorithms that most programmers don't encounter in their regular work. Take a hands-on approach, writing the Python code yourself, without any libraries to obscure what's really going on. Iterate on your design, and add layers of complexity as you go. Build an image recognition application from scratch with supervised learning. Predict the future with linear regression. Dive into gradient descent, a fundamental algorithm that drives most of machine learning. Create perceptrons to classify data. Build neural networks to tackle more complex and sophisticated data sets. Train and refine those networks with backpropagation and batching. Layer the neural networks, eliminate overfitting, and add convolution to transform your neural network into a true deep learning system. Start from the beginning and code your way to machine learning mastery. What You Need: The examples in this book are written in Python, but don't worry if you don't know this language: you'll pick up all the Python you need very quickly. Apart from that, you'll only need your computer, and your code-adept brain.

Book Synopsis First-order and Stochastic Optimization Methods for Machine Learning by : Guanghui Lan

Download or read book First-order and Stochastic Optimization Methods for Machine Learning written by Guanghui Lan. This book was released on 2020-05-15. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers not only foundational materials but also the most recent progresses made during the past few years on the area of machine learning algorithms. In spite of the intensive research and development in this area, there does not exist a systematic treatment to introduce the fundamental concepts and recent progresses on machine learning algorithms, especially on those based on stochastic optimization methods, randomized algorithms, nonconvex optimization, distributed and online learning, and projection free methods. This book will benefit the broad audience in the area of machine learning, artificial intelligence and mathematical programming community by presenting these recent developments in a tutorial style, starting from the basic building blocks to the most carefully designed and complicated algorithms for machine learning.
