Book Synopsis Bayesian Data Analysis for the Behavioral and Neural Sciences by : Todd E. Hudson

Download or read book Bayesian Data Analysis for the Behavioral and Neural Sciences written by Todd E. Hudson. This book was released on 2021-06-24. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook bypasses the need for advanced mathematics by providing in-text computer code, allowing students to explore Bayesian data analysis without the calculus background normally considered a prerequisite for this material. Now, students can use the best methods without needing advanced mathematical techniques. This approach goes beyond “frequentist” concepts of p-values and null hypothesis testing, using the full power of modern probability theory to solve real-world problems. The book offers a fully self-contained course, which demonstrates analysis techniques throughout with worked examples crafted specifically for students in the behavioral and neural sciences. The book presents two general algorithms that help students solve the measurement and model selection (also called “hypothesis testing”) problems most frequently encountered in real-world applications.

Book Synopsis Mathematical Modeling And Simulation In Enteric Neurobiology by : Roustem Miftahof

Download or read book Mathematical Modeling And Simulation In Enteric Neurobiology written by Roustem Miftahof. This book was released on 2009-01-22. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lack of scientists equally trained and prepared to understand both mathematics and biology/medicine hampers the development and application of computer simulation methods in biology and neurogastrobiology. Currently, there are no texts for navigating the extensive and intricate field of mathematical and computational modeling in neurogastrobiology. This book bridges the gap between mathematicians, computer scientists and biologists, and thus assists in the study and analysis of complex biological phenomena that cannot be done through traditional in vivo and in vitro experimental approaches. The book recognizes the complexity of biological phenomena under investigation and treats the subject matter with a degree of mathematical rigor. Special attention is given to computer simulations for interpolation and extrapolation of electromechanical and chemoelectrical phenomena, nonlinear self-sustained electromechanical wave activity, pharmacological effects including co-localization and co-transmission by multiple neurotransmitters, receptor polymodality, and drug interactions.Mathematical Modeling and Simulation in Enteric Neurobiology is an interdisciplinary book and is an essential source of information for biologists and doctors who are interested in knowing about the role and advantages of numerical experimentation in their subjects, as well as for mathematicians who are interested in exploring new areas of applications.

Book Synopsis Tutorials in Motor Neuroscience by : Jean Requin

Download or read book Tutorials in Motor Neuroscience written by Jean Requin. This book was released on 1991-08-31. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume represents the proceedings of a NATO Advanced Study Institute (ASI) on the topic of "Motor Neuroscience" held at the Hotel San 15-24, 1990. The San Bastiano Hotel Bastiano, Calcatoggio (Corsica), September provided a beautiful setting for the ten day ASI in aresort on the west coast of Corsica, near the island's capital city of Ajaccio. The motivation of this ASI originated from the success of an ASI that we organized eleven years ago at Senanque Abbey in the south of France. Our earlier meeting was successful in providing some coherence to a widely scattered literature while providing up to date knowledge on motor control and learning. Our goal for the second ASI was essentially the same. We wanted to appraise the main theoretical ideas that currently characterize the field by bringing together many of the internationally known scientists who are doing much of the contemporary work. It is our hope that these proceedings will provide some conceptual unification to an expanding and diverse literature on motor control.
