Book Synopsis Materials Characterization Using Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Methods by : Gerhard Huebschen

Download or read book Materials Characterization Using Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Methods written by Gerhard Huebschen. This book was released on 2016-03-23. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Materials Characterization Using Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Methods discusses NDT methods and how they are highly desirable for both long-term monitoring and short-term assessment of materials, providing crucial early warning that the fatigue life of a material has elapsed, thus helping to prevent service failures. Materials Characterization Using Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Methods gives an overview of established and new NDT techniques for the characterization of materials, with a focus on materials used in the automotive, aerospace, power plants, and infrastructure construction industries. Each chapter focuses on a different NDT technique and indicates the potential of the method by selected examples of applications. Methods covered include scanning and transmission electron microscopy, X-ray microtomography and diffraction, ultrasonic, electromagnetic, microwave, and hybrid techniques. The authors review both the determination of microstructure properties, including phase content and grain size, and the determination of mechanical properties, such as hardness, toughness, yield strength, texture, and residual stress. Download or read book Nondestructive Materials Characterization written by Norbert G. H. Meyendorf. This book was released on 2013-11-21. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With an emphasis on aircraft materials, this book describes techniques for the material characterization to detect and quantify degradation processes such as corrosion and fatigue. It introduces readers to these techniques based on x-ray, ultrasonic, optical and thermal principles and demonstrates the potential of the techniques for a wide variety of applications concerning aircraft materials, especially aluminum and titanium alloys. The advantages and disadvantages of various techniques are evaluated.

Book Synopsis Nondestructive Characterization of Materials IV by : J.F. Bussière

Download or read book Nondestructive Characterization of Materials IV written by J.F. Bussière. This book was released on 2013-11-11. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a great deal of interest in extending nondestructive technologies beyond the location and identification of cracks and voids. Specifically there is growing interest in the application of nondestructive evaluation (NOEl to the measurement of physical and mechanical properties of materials. The measurement of materials properties is often referred to as materials characterization; thus nondestructive techniques applied to characterization become nondestructive characterization (NDCl. There are a number of meetings, proceedings and journals focused upon nondestructive technologies and the detection and identification of cracks and voids. However, the series of symposia, of which these proceedings represent the fourth, are the only meetings uniquely focused upon nondestructive characterization. Moreover, these symposia are especially concerned with stimulating communication between the materials, mechanical and manufacturing engineer and the NDE technology oriented engineer and scientist. These symposia recognize that it is the welding of these areas of expertise that is necessary for practical development and application of NDC technology to measurements of components for in service life time and sensor technology for intelligent processing of materials. These proceedings are from the fourth international symposia and are edited by c.o. Ruud, J. F. Bussiere and R.E. Green, Jr. . The dates, places, etc of the symposia held to date area as follows: Symposia on Nondestructive Methods for TITLE: Material Property Determination DATES: April 6-8, 1983 PLACE: Hershey, PA, USA CHAIRPERSONS: C.O. Ruud and R.E. Green, Jr.

Book Synopsis Nondestructive Methods for Materials Characterization: by : George Y. Baaklini

Download or read book Nondestructive Methods for Materials Characterization: written by George Y. Baaklini. This book was released on 2014-06-05. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Characterization of material properties is critical for understanding the material's mechanical behavior and design performance under its operating conditions. The necessity to characterize materials for a myriad of applications has spurred the development of many new methods and instruments. However, many of these tools require destructive sectioning of the material to provide characterization and do not provide key information about material parameters in their operating environments. An ideal characterization tool would provide data about the material properties that affect micro- and macro-structural behavior without the need to destructively section the sample. Such data can only be obtained using nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methodologies; therefore NDE is essential for almost any advanced industrial product. NDE offers the possibility to determine/gauge material parameters and defects at nearly any point, line, surface or volume element of interest. This book brings together researchers to focus and report on multidisciplinary approaches to solving materials characterization problems. Topics include: process control and deformation behavior via X-ray techniques; NDE for fracture, fatigue and corrosion; electric and dielectric NDE; structure-sensitive properties for NDE characterization; NDE for silicon wafers and thin films and optical and infrared techniques.

Book Synopsis Non-destructive Materials Characterization and Evaluation by : Walter Arnold

Download or read book Non-destructive Materials Characterization and Evaluation written by Walter Arnold. This book was released on 2023-07-07. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to non-destructive materials characterization (NDMC) using different non-destructive evaluation techniques. It presents theoretical basis, physical understanding, and technological developments in the field of NDMC with suitable examples for engineering and materials science applications. It is written for engineers and researchers in R&D, design, production, quality assurance, and non-destructive testing and evaluation. The relevance of NDMC is to achieve higher reliability, safety, and productivity for monitoring production processes and also for in-service inspections for detection of degradations, which are often precursors of macro-defects and failure of components. Ultrasonic, magnetic, electromagnetic and X-rays based NDMC techniques are discussed in detail with brief discussions on electron and positron based techniques.
