Book Synopsis Making Images with Mathematics by : Alexei Sourin

Download or read book Making Images with Mathematics written by Alexei Sourin. This book was released on 2021. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook teaches readers how to turn geometry into an image on a computer screen. This exciting journey begins in the schools of the ancient Greek philosophers, and describes the major events that changed people's perception of geometry. The readers will learn how to see geometry and colors beyond simple mathematical formulas and how to represent geometric shapes, transformations and motions by digital sampling of various mathematical functions. Special multiplatform visualization software developed by the author will allow readers to explore the exciting world of visual immersive mathematics, and the book software repository will provide a starting point for their own sophisticated visualization applications. Making Images with Mathematics serves as a self-contained text for a one-semester computer graphics and visualization course for computer science and engineering students, as well as a reference manual for researchers and developers.

Book Synopsis Math Made Visual by : Claudi Alsina

Download or read book Math Made Visual written by Claudi Alsina. This book was released on 2006-07-06. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The object of this book is to show how visualization techniques may be employed to produce pictures that have interest for the creation, communication and teaching of mathematics. Mathematical drawings related to proofs have been produced since antiquity in China, Arabia, Greece and India but only in the last thirty years has there been a growing interest in so-called 'proofs without words.' In this book the authors show that behind most of the pictures 'proving' mathematical relations are some well-understood methods. The first part of the book consists of twenty short chapters, each one describing a method to visualize some mathematical idea (a proof, a concept, an operation,...) and several applications to concrete cases. Following this the book examines general pedagogical considerations concerning the development of visual thinking, practical approaches for making visualizations in the classroom and a discussion of the role that hands-on material plays in this process.

Book excerpt: Mathematical craftwork has become extremely popular, and mathematicians and crafters alike are fascinated by the relationship between their crafts. The focus of this book, written for mathematicians, needleworkers, and teachers of mathematics, is on the relationship between mathematics and the fiber arts (including knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch, and quilting). Each chapter starts with an overview of the mathematics and the needlework at a level understandable to both mathematicians and needleworkers, followed by more technical sections discussing the mathematics, how to introduce the mathematics in the classroom through needlework, and how to make the needlework project, including patterns and instructions.

Book Synopsis Mathematical Illustrations by : Bill Casselman

Download or read book Mathematical Illustrations written by Bill Casselman. This book was released on 2005-01-24. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This practical introduction to the techniques needed to produce mathematical illustrations of high quality is suitable for anyone with a modest acquaintance with coordinate geometry. The author combines a completely self-contained step-by-step introduction to the graphics programming language PostScript with advice on what goes into good mathematical illustrations, chapters showing how good graphics can be used to explain mathematics, and a treatment of all the mathematics needed to make such illustrations. The many small simple graphics projects can also be used in courses in geometry, graphics, or general mathematics. Code for many of the illustrations is included, and can be downloaded from the book's web site: www.math.ubc.ca/~cass/graphics/manualMathematicians; scientists, engineers, and even graphic designers seeking help in creating technical illustrations need look no further.
