Book excerpt: During the 92 day period, the 29th General Support Group continued operations as a major subordinate command of the US Army Support Command, Saigon, providing broad and varied logistics support to US Army and Free World Military Assistance Forces--primarily in the III Corps Tactical Zone--in addition to general support maintenance for both III and IV Corps Tactical Zones. Additionally, several maintenance contracts for generators and other non-standard items of equipment were administered. The Group Headquarters continued to exercise tactical responsibility for defense of the eastern perimeter of Long Binh Post, including approximately 15 kilometers of defensive positions, three sub-sector operations centers, and associated communications.

Book excerpt: Headquarters, Capital Military Assistance Command (CMAC) directed its effort towards the initial phases of the 'Transition Period' - The complete turnover of responsibility for the defense of Saigon and the Capital Military District to the Army of the Republic of Vietnam. An all time high of 137 awards were presented during the reporting period in recognition of the meritorious service rendered by CMAC personnel. Intelligence activities were oriented towards early detection of enemy forces and elimination of their support bases and caches located within the Area of Operation. Extensive offensive operations were conducted to eliminate the enemy and preempt his ground and rocket attack capability against Saigon. The Republic of Vietnam Army Civic Action Program received considerable command emphasis resulting in a marked increase in medcaps and construction projects. At the end of the reporting period, one separate airborne brigade was under the operational control of Commanding General, CMAC.
