Book Synopsis Post-Soviet Constitutions and Challenges of Regional Integration by : Roman Petrov

Download or read book Post-Soviet Constitutions and Challenges of Regional Integration written by Roman Petrov. This book was released on 2017-11-22. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the implications of European and Eurasian integration projects for the constitutional orders of post-Soviet countries. On the one hand, the process of Eurasian integration, culminating in the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), led to the creation of new institutions and mechanisms influencing the domestic legal order of the participating countries. On the other hand, the process of European integration, epitomised through the European Union (EU), constitutes an important source of reference for domestic constitutional developments in the countries which recently concluded a new generation of Association Agreements with the EU. This book analyses the implications of both processes. The book addresses the relevant experience of the countries from Central and Eastern Europe with transitional constitutionalism, mapping out the significance of European and Eurasian integration for protecting the rule of law in the post-Soviet space and identifying the constitutional implications and challenges of the EAEU and the new generation of Association Agreements. It also provides detailed country reports on national constitutional orders in the post-Soviet space and their adaptability to regional integration projects, authored by leading academics from the countries concerned, providing a number of general reflections about the evolution of post-Soviet constitutions in light of European and Eurasian integration projects.

Book Synopsis Regional Integration in Eurasia by : Zhenis Kembayev

Download or read book Regional Integration in Eurasia written by Zhenis Kembayev. This book was released on 2017. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This article examines the legal and political aspects of regional integration processes in Eurasia since the end of the Soviet era. It contends that both political and economic factors are driving these processes, including the desire of a number of post-Soviet countries to consolidate regional peace and security and, also, to create a larger and more effective economic space, thus increasing these countries' power and international influence. It also argues that the formation of a united Eurasia is being conducted in the framework of two separate but closely connected - with almost identical membership - international organizations: the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). This article provides some background to the CSTO and the EAEU and explains their consolidating factors. It also examines the institutional framework of these groupings and expounds on their purposes, principles, and major areas of cooperation. It argues that these two organizations, in combination, constitute a single de facto structure that, for discussion purposes in this article, is referred to as the Eurasian alliance. Finally, the article attempts to illustrate problems and to assess prospects related to integration processes in Eurasia.

Book Synopsis Regions in Transition in the Former Soviet Area by : Alessandra Russo

Download or read book Regions in Transition in the Former Soviet Area written by Alessandra Russo. This book was released on 2017-11-15. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to understand the “texture” of the post-Soviet region, where waves of de-integration and re-integration have been resonating at different times and through diverse manifestations over the last quarter of century. The post-Soviet states have been evolving in an embryonic system of states in their close neighbourhood, whose boundaries and rules of interactions are still in the making. However, one can already detect specific traits of regional governance, one of these being the presence of overlapping organisations and institutions. It includes reflections on relations between state formation and region formation and a tentative conceptualisation of a post-colonial form of regionalism. The focus on small states, featuring different behaviours vis-à-vis regional organisations and regional imaginaries in their transitional and still unsettled state identities and foreign policy narratives, constitutes a further element of originality. This innovative volume is crucial reading for scholars and researchers of International Relations with a special interest in either the Former Soviet Space or Comparative Regionalism.
