Book Synopsis Leadership Peruvian Style by : Tim McIntosh

Download or read book Leadership Peruvian Style written by Tim McIntosh. This book was released on 2012-01-05. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leadership across cultural borders is the new frontier in leadership studies. Increased globalization means leaders are dealing with a variety of cultures in and out of their own countries. Leaders must be experts in understanding what cultural dimensions mean for being effective outside their own comfort zone. Americans in particular are often ill-equipped to understand the cultural complexities for international leadership. In Leadership Peruvian Style, author Tim McIntosh addresses how Peruvians define and practice leadership, providing a model to assist the cross-cultural worker in understanding leadership in both the home and host cultures. McIntoshs findings are based in an empirical study conducted in 2008 that featured focus groups composed of Peruvian citizens. The study results described in Leadership Peruvian Style are not only important for those working in Peru and other parts of Latin America, but also give insight into how to analyze the leadership profile of a particular culture and, in turn, make adjustments in order to be more effective. Through this analysis, McIntosh, who has spent twenty-seven years in leadership in Peru, has contributed to the raising up of a new generation of effective leaders in Latin America.

Book Synopsis The Influence of Personality Domains and Working Experience in Peruvian Managers' Leadership Styles by : Fernando D'Alessio

Download or read book The Influence of Personality Domains and Working Experience in Peruvian Managers' Leadership Styles written by Fernando D'Alessio. This book was released on 2012. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this quantitative investigation is to examine the relationships that may exist among the five personality domains, working experience, and the three leadership styles in a sample of 500 managerial Master of Business Administration (MBA) students of a leading business school in Peru. Similar studies have previously been performed in developed countries; well-known examples come from the United States of America, Norway, Germany, Australia, Canada, and Singapore, but no such studies are found in a developing country. The Neuroticism Extraversion Openness to Experience Personality Inventory Revised (NEO-PI-R) and Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) were the instruments used for personality and leadership, respectively. In this sample, conscientiousness demonstrates the strongest and most consistent correlation with transformational (.426 ), transactional (.43 0), and passive-avoidant (-.354 ) leadership styles. Extraversion has the next highest correlation with transformational (.400) leadership styles and a weak correlation with transactional (.152) and passive-avoidant (-.166) leadership styles. Agreeableness has no significant correlation with any of the leadership styles, and openness to experience shows a significant correlation only to transformational (.201) leadership styles. Neuroticism shows weak correlations with transformational (-.214 ) and passive-avoidant (.26 7) leadership styles. Conscientiousness and extraversion may encourage individuals to emerge as leaders. Transformational and transactional leadership behaviors are demonstrated more frequently with increasing working experience.
