No solo trata el fenómeno, su origen y sus causas, sino también los datos y la evolución en el tratamiento jurídico del mismo en el ámbito internacional, de la Unión Europea y especialmente en España y en sus comunidades autónomas desde su origen hasta la actualidad, realizando un análisis en profundidad fruto de la experiencia del autor tras 20 años de investigación sobre este tema e interesantes aportaciones para abordar la compleja adaptación del sistema de protección de menores en España y de la normativa de extranjería a la situación y especialidades de estos menores.Algunas de las cuestiones fundamentales de este fenómeno que aborda la obra son la necesidad de un sistema coordinado a nivel de la Unión Europea para la protección de los menores migrantes, especialmente los no acompañados y los que presentan situaciones de especial vulnerabilidad, las necesidades de reforma del sistema de protección de menores que los tutela y de la legislación de extranjería en España para proteger los derechos y garantizar la integración de estos menores, y la necesidad de acompañarlos en su proceso de integración social también tras cumplir la mayoría de edad cuando ya no están bajo la tutela de la Administración.
