Book excerpt: The Great British Curriculum Word Search For KS2 Kids (Book 2) is a carefully structured collection of word search puzzles designed to help develop the vocabulary and spelling skills of children in the 9 to 11 age range. 100 themed word searches explore the broad range of subjects and topics Primary Level KS2 kids are likely to encounter in Years 5 and 6 in England and Wales, P5 and P6 in Scotland, or Years 6 and 7 in Northern Ireland. Solutions are included and all spellings are British English. The main curriculum subject areas covered are: English Maths Science Art Computing Design and Technology Geography History Modern Languages Music Physical Education PSHE and Citizenship Religion The World Around Us Tricky Words Subject areas are also subdivided into related topics, such as Cooking and Nutrition, World War I, and Biomes. Every full-page puzzle has an average of 17 words to find. Confident kids can work on their own. Less confident readers might need a little help to get started, but with the right encouragement, it shouldn't be long before they can fly solo! Year 5 children (6 NI) will discover many new words and exciting topics. Less confident readers may need some help and support to get started. This is a great opportunity for children to collaborate with a parent, grandparent, sibling, or friend. Year 6 children (7 NI) will be likely to have encountered more of the words and topics. This should provide an enjoyable recap, as well as further expanding their vocabulary. All the topics and words in these word searches are based on terminology that Year 5 and 6 children are likely to encounter during the teaching of the UK Government's KS2 National Curriculum. England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland each have slightly different approaches to primary education but all share similar goals and values. This collection of puzzles places a strong emphasis on English, particularly Grammar and Punctuation. In addition to developing vocabulary and spelling skills, these puzzles are intended to spark some curiosity about the topics. Be ready for plenty of questions! It might be time for you to brush up on your own word skills, or your kids are going to run rings around you! You might even learn a few things yourself about Nutrition, Ancient Rome, and Microorganisms! The final set of word searches, Tricky Words, includes the Department of Education's published list of words that children should be able to spell and use correctly by the time they have completed Year 6. This set of words is tricky because it includes many similar-sounding words and many words that are frequently misspelled. This book offers another fun and challenging way to help your child or grandchild to reach their full potential. Thank you for your interest.
