Book Synopsis Science of Mythology by : Carl Gustav Jung

Download or read book Science of Mythology written by Carl Gustav Jung. This book was released on 2002. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Carl Jung and Carl Kerenyi got together to collaborate on this book, their aim was to elevate the study of mythology to a science. Kerenyi wrote on two of the most ubiquitous myths, the Divine Child and The Maiden, supporting the core 'stories' with both an introduction and a conclusion. Jung then provided a psychological analysis of both myths. He defined myth as a story about heroes interacting with the gods. Having long studied dreams and the subconscious, Jung identified certain dream patterns common to everyone. These 'archetypes' have developed through the centuries, and enable modern people to react to situations in much the same way as our ancestors. From nuclear annihilation to AIDS and Ebola, we continue to engage the gods in battle. Science of Mythology provides an account of the meaning and the purpose of mythic themes that is linked to modern life: the heroic battles between good and evil of yore are still played out, reflected in contemporary fears.

Book Synopsis Essays on a Science of Mythology by : Carl Gustav Jung

Download or read book Essays on a Science of Mythology written by Carl Gustav Jung. This book was released on 1949. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This joint work on two central themes in mythology and in the human unconscious by a great psychologist and a great classical scholar originally appeared in German in 1940-41. First published in English in 1949, this "introduction" to mythology as a science has gone through several editions and has become a classic in both its fields. C. Kerényi has contributed monographs on the Primordial Child in Primordial Times, and on the Kore, or Maiden Goddess. C. G. Jung amplifies these archetypal themes with essays on the Psychology of the Child Archetype and the Psychological Aspects of the Kore. The two myth-themes meets in the Mysteries of Eleusis, when, in Kerényi's interpretation, the mother-daughter goddess bears a divine child. --
