Book Synopsis Spectral Theory and Quantum Mechanics by : Valter Moretti

Download or read book Spectral Theory and Quantum Mechanics written by Valter Moretti. This book was released on 2013-04-02. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book pursues the accurate study of the mathematical foundations of Quantum Theories. It may be considered an introductory text on linear functional analysis with a focus on Hilbert spaces. Specific attention is given to spectral theory features that are relevant in physics. Having left the physical phenomenology in the background, it is the formal and logical aspects of the theory that are privileged. Another not lesser purpose is to collect in one place a number of useful rigorous statements on the mathematical structure of Quantum Mechanics, including some elementary, yet fundamental, results on the Algebraic Formulation of Quantum Theories. In the attempt to reach out to Master's or PhD students, both in physics and mathematics, the material is designed to be self-contained: it includes a summary of point-set topology and abstract measure theory, together with an appendix on differential geometry. The book should benefit established researchers to organise and present the profusion of advanced material disseminated in the literature. Most chapters are accompanied by exercises, many of which are solved explicitly.

Book Synopsis Spectral Theory and Quantum Mechanics by : Mathieu Lewin

Download or read book Spectral Theory and Quantum Mechanics written by Mathieu Lewin. This book was released on 2024-10-05. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook presents the spectral theory of self-adjoint operators on Hilbert space and its applications in quantum mechanics. Based on a course taught by the author in Paris, the book not only covers the mathematical theory but also provides its physical interpretation, offering an accessible introduction to quantum mechanics for students with a background in mathematics. The presentation incorporates numerous physical examples to illustrate the abstract theory. The final two chapters present recent findings on Schrödinger’s equation for systems of particles. While primarily designed for graduate courses, the book can also serve as a valuable introduction to the subject for more advanced readers. It requires no prior knowledge of physics, assuming only a graduate-level understanding of mathematical analysis from the reader.

Book Synopsis Spectral Theory and Mathematical Physics: A Festschrift in Honor of Barry Simon's 60th Birthday by : Fritz Gesztesy

Download or read book Spectral Theory and Mathematical Physics: A Festschrift in Honor of Barry Simon's 60th Birthday written by Fritz Gesztesy. This book was released on 2007. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Festschrift had its origins in a conference called SimonFest held at Caltech, March 27-31, 2006, to honor Barry Simon's 60th birthday. It is not a proceedings volume in the usual sense since the emphasis of the majority of the contributions is on reviews of the state of the art of certain fields, with particular focus on recent developments and open problems. The bulk of the articles in this Festschrift are of this survey form, and a few review Simon's contributions to aparticular area. Part 1 contains surveys in the areas of Quantum Field Theory, Statistical Mechanics, Nonrelativistic Two-Body and $N$-Body Quantum Systems, Resonances, Quantum Mechanics with Electric and Magnetic Fields, and the Semiclassical Limit. Part 2 contains surveys in the areas of Random andErgodic Schrodinger Operators, Singular Continuous Spectrum, Orthogonal Polynomials, and Inverse Spectral Theory. In several cases, this collection of surveys portrays both the history of a subject and its current state of the art. A substantial part of the contributions to this Festschrift are survey articles on the state of the art of certain areas with special emphasis on open problems. This will benefit graduate students as well as researchers who want to get a quick, yet comprehensiveintroduction into an area covered in this volume.

Book Synopsis A Guide to Spectral Theory by : Christophe Cheverry

Download or read book A Guide to Spectral Theory written by Christophe Cheverry. This book was released on 2021-05-06. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook provides a graduate-level introduction to the spectral theory of linear operators on Banach and Hilbert spaces, guiding readers through key components of spectral theory and its applications in quantum physics. Based on their extensive teaching experience, the authors present topics in a progressive manner so that each chapter builds on the ones preceding. Researchers and students alike will also appreciate the exploration of more advanced applications and research perspectives presented near the end of the book. Beginning with a brief introduction to the relationship between spectral theory and quantum physics, the authors go on to explore unbounded operators, analyzing closed, adjoint, and self-adjoint operators. Next, the spectrum of a closed operator is defined and the fundamental properties of Fredholm operators are introduced. The authors then develop the Grushin method to execute the spectral analysis of compact operators. The chapters that follow are devoted to examining Hille-Yoshida and Stone theorems, the spectral analysis of self-adjoint operators, and trace-class and Hilbert-Schmidt operators. The final chapter opens the discussion to several selected applications. Throughout this textbook, detailed proofs are given, and the statements are illustrated by a number of well-chosen examples. At the end, an appendix about foundational functional analysis theorems is provided to help the uninitiated reader. A Guide to Spectral Theory: Applications and Exercises is intended for graduate students taking an introductory course in spectral theory or operator theory. A background in linear functional analysis and partial differential equations is assumed; basic knowledge of bounded linear operators is useful but not required. PhD students and researchers will also find this volume to be of interest, particularly the research directions provided in later chapters.
