Book Synopsis Intensive Interventions for Students Struggling in Reading and Mathematics. A Practice Guide by : Sharon Vaughn

Download or read book Intensive Interventions for Students Struggling in Reading and Mathematics. A Practice Guide written by Sharon Vaughn. This book was released on 2012. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication provides research-based guidance for intensifying instruction in reading and mathematics for students with significant learning difficulties, including students with disabilities, in kindergarten through grade 12. The guide gives technical assistance providers and states information reflecting "best practices" for implementing intensive interventions to improve education practices for struggling students, including those who receive special education. It can also be used as a resource for instructional specialists and special education teachers who are searching for broad guidelines on the design and delivery of intensive interventions. With those goals in mind, the authors present a brief review of the research on intensifying instruction for struggling students. Specifically, they discuss: (1) integrating strategies that support cognitive processes (e.g., self-regulation and memory) with academic instruction and aligning this instruction with learner needs; (2) differentiating instructional delivery by making it more explicit and systematic and by increasing opportunities for feedback; (3) increasing instructional time; and (4) reducing group size. The guide includes the following resources: (1) practice guidelines (in the form of questions and answers) that can inform the design and delivery of intensive interventions; (2) example lessons (see the Appendix) that illustrate the intensification of key areas of instructional delivery (i.e., making lessons more explicit and systematic and increasing the opportunities for student response and feedback); and (3) a list of resources for further reading and extended learning. Although this guide is not a comprehensive review of the literature, it does offer guidelines for instructional decision-makers on adapting and modifying instructional practices to deliver appropriate, responsive instruction for students with learning difficulties. Example Lessons are appended. (Contains 1 table and 1 footnote.).

Book Synopsis Designing and Delivering Intensive Interventions by : Christy S. Murray

Download or read book Designing and Delivering Intensive Interventions written by Christy S. Murray. This book was released on 2012. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This toolkit provides activities and resources to assist practitioners in designing and delivering intensive interventions in reading and mathematics for K-12 students with significant learning difficulties and disabilities. Grounded in research, this toolkit is based on the Center on Instruction's "Intensive Interventions for Students Struggling in Reading and Mathematics: A Practice Guide." The practice guide examines four considerations for intensifying interventions: (1) supporting cognitive processes; (2) differentiating and intensifying instructional delivery; (3) increasing instructional time, and (4) reducing group size. Although progress monitoring of student learning is a critical step when implementing intensive interventions, this topic is outside the scope of the practice guide and, therefore, is not included in this toolkit. Book Synopsis Essentials of Intensive Intervention by : Rebecca Zumeta Edmonds

Download or read book Essentials of Intensive Intervention written by Rebecca Zumeta Edmonds. This book was released on 2019-04-24. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few evidence-based resources exist for supporting elementary and secondary students who require intensive intervention--typically Tier 3 within a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS). Filling a gap in the field, this book brings together leading experts to present data-based individualization (DBI), a systematic approach to providing intensive intervention which is applicable to reading, math, and behavior. Key components of the DBI process are explained in detail, including screening, progress monitoring, and the use and ongoing adaptation of validated interventions. The book also addresses ways to ensure successful, sustained implementation and provides application exercises and FAQs. Readers are guided to access and utilize numerous free online DBI resources--tool charts, planning materials, sample activities, downloadable forms, and more.
