Book excerpt: Las escritoras afro-americanas contemporáneas tienen distintos modos de imaginar e interpretar el pasado de la realidad cultural afro-americana en su trabajo. Sin embargo, todas ellas parecen coincidir en la importancia de la memoria, el mito, y los sueños como dinámicas fuentes creativas que contienen el potencial de fuerza recuperadora en el ámbito de la historia, la cultura, y lo femenino. El objetivo principal de la presente tesis consiste en analizar a través del puntual estudio de obras seleccionadas de escritoras y cineastas afro-americanas como Paule Marshall, Julie Dash, Gloria Naylor y Alice Walker, como lingüística, histórica, y estructuralmente, la mujer afro-americana contemporánea reclama una compleja presencia cultural que reafirma sus lazos culturales con el continente africano con el fin de clarificar y explicar importantes cuestiones que preocupan a las comunidades afro-americanas contemporáneas: el análisis estructural y temático de dichas representaciones literarias se realiza con una especifica metodología de teorías deconstruccionistas, de-colonizadoras y feministas afro-americanas.
