Book Synopsis Ghosts of Ogden, Brigham City and Logan by : Jennifer Jones

Download or read book Ghosts of Ogden, Brigham City and Logan written by Jennifer Jones. This book was released on 2017-10-09. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tales of fascinating pasts and spirited encounters in northern Utah’s spookiest locations from the author and founder of The Dead History. From Ogden up to Logan, northern Utah claims more than its fair share of restless spirits. The Ben Lomond Hotel was rumored to be the site of a honeymooning bride who tragically drowned in her bathtub, only to have her distraught son consequently commit suicide in the adjoining room. The iconic Union Station still houses passengers in the form of apparitions and disembodied voices. The owner of the Shooting Star Saloon purportedly continues to monkey around with the jukebox and a phantom piano, while Crystal Hot Springs hosts a bevy of spirits, including a crying child, a stabbing victim and multiple pool-related fatalities. Author Jennifer Jones unearths the stories behind the ghosts that continue to preside over their final destinations. “As far as we are aware, Jennifer is the only person that is documenting locations in Northern Utah as well as telling the stories of people in graves with headstones she finds interesting . . . Whether you want it to or not, paranormal and history go hand in hand.” —The New Utah Podcast

Book Synopsis Haunting Experiences by : Diane Goldstein

Download or read book Haunting Experiences written by Diane Goldstein. This book was released on 2007-09-15. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ghosts and other supernatural phenomena are widely represented throughout modern culture. They can be found in any number of entertainment, commercial, and other contexts, but popular media or commodified representations of ghosts can be quite different from the beliefs people hold about them, based on tradition or direct experience. Personal belief and cultural tradition on the one hand, and popular and commercial representation on the other, nevertheless continually feed each other. They frequently share space in how people think about the supernatural. In Haunting Experiences, three well-known folklorists seek to broaden the discussion of ghost lore by examining it from a variety of angles in various modern contexts. Diane E. Goldstein, Sylvia Ann Grider, and Jeannie Banks Thomas take ghosts seriously, as they draw on contemporary scholarship that emphasizes both the basis of belief in experience (rather than mere fantasy) and the usefulness of ghost stories. They look closely at the narrative role of such lore in matters such as socialization and gender. And they unravel the complex mix of mass media, commodification, and popular culture that today puts old spirits into new contexts.

Book Synopsis Lost Landscapes by : Linda Dunning

Download or read book Lost Landscapes written by Linda Dunning. This book was released on 2007. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Utah is a land of untamed beauty. from the snowy peaks of the Wasatch Mountains to the brilliant red rocks of Southern Utah, the state boasts views and vistas found nowhere else in the nation. Travelers can glean a great amount of history from the scenes they see and the places they visit, yet there are other stories and legends that belong to Utah and her native land - tales that are not often told. Saltair was once the premier resort on the shores of the Great Salt Lake. Now it lies abandoned and in disrepair, almost mythical in appearance. Mount Timpanogos's unique shape subtly speaks the story of Utahna and the Indian brave who loved her. and not so long ago, the Anasazi Indians were a thriving people, destined for greatness - until they disappeared into the canyons from which they'd carved their civilization, leaving no clues as to their whereabouts. for young and old alike, Lost Landscapes will pique interest and raise questions to the mysteries lurking within Utah's borders. Whether it be the unsolved riddles of places, people, puzzling objects, or legends that have been passed down through the generations, everyone will find something that will have them eagerly turning to the next page.
