Book Synopsis Handbook of Nonlinear Optics by : Richard Lee Sutherland

Download or read book Handbook of Nonlinear Optics written by Richard Lee Sutherland. This book was released on 1996. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examining the fundamental principles and formulations of nonlinear optics (NLO), this comprehensive, single-source reference presents practical formulas for use in a variety of experimental and design situations, current applications of NLO to specific technical problems, the latest device and materials data, and state-of-the-art methods for characterizing new materials - supplying much-needed continuity in nomenclature and the use of physical units. Providing a succinct interpretation of formulas and a conceptual understanding of NLO phenomena, the Handbook of Nonlinear Optics covers key elements of NLO such as frequency conversion, optical parametric oscillators and amplifiers, nonlinear refraction and absorption, and stimulated light scattering... describes experimental techniques for characterizing nonlinear parameters for both second and third order materials... considers common and less well known experimental methods... provides mathematical formulas in SI and cgs (esu) units, as well as conversions between these two systems... avoids unnecessary elaboration of mathematical derivations... details nonlinear optical parameters for a variety of gases, liquids, solutions, suspensions, inorganic and organic solids, and polymers... and more. Furnishing over 900 up-to-date references to the literature and more than 1040 helpful tables, equations, and drawings, the Handbook of Nonlinear Optics is a vital resource for optical, electro-optical, electrical and electronics, mechanical, chemical, and aerospace engineers; optical physicists; materials scientists; physical and organic chemists; metallurgists; research and development personnel in industry, government, and academia; and upper-level undergraduate, graduate, and continuing-education students in these disciplines.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Nonlinear Optical Crystals by : Valentin G. Dmitriev

Download or read book Handbook of Nonlinear Optical Crystals written by Valentin G. Dmitriev. This book was released on 2013-11-11. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the invention of the first laser 30 years ago, the frequency conversion of laser radiation in nonlinear optical crystals has become an important technique widely used in quantum electronics and laser physics for solving various scientific and engineering problems. The fundamental physics of three-wave light interactions in nonlinear optical crystals is now largely understood. This has enabled the production of the various harmonic generators, sum and difference frequency generators, and parametric oscillators based on nonlinear crystals that are now commercially available. At the same time, scientists continue an active search for novel high-efficiency optical materials. Therefore, in our opinion, there is a great need for a handbook of nonlinear optical crystals, intended for specialists and practitioners with an engineering background. This book contains a complete description of the properties and applications of all nonlinear crystals reported in the literature up to the beginning of 1990. In addition, it contains the most important equations for calculating the main parameters (such as phase-matching direction, effective non-linearity, and conversion efficiency) of nonlinear frequency converters.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Biomedical Nonlinear Optical Microscopy by : Barry R. Masters

Download or read book Handbook of Biomedical Nonlinear Optical Microscopy written by Barry R. Masters. This book was released on 2008-05-19. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Biomedical Nonlinear Optical Microscopy provides comprehensive treatment of the theories, techniques, and biomedical applications of nonlinear optics and microscopy for cell biologists, life scientists, biomedical engineers, and clinicians. The chapters are separated into basic and advanced sections, and provide both textual and graphical illustrations of all key concepts. The more basic sections are aimed at life scientists without advanced training in physics and mathematics, and tutorials are provided for the more challenging sections. The first part of the Handbook introduces the historical context of nonlinear microscopy. The second part presents the nonlinear optical theory of two- and multiphoton excited fluorescence (TPE, MPE) spectroscopy, second and third harmonic generation (SHG, THG) spectroscopy, and coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS). The third part introduces modern microscopic and spectroscopic instrumentation and techniques that are based on nonlinear optics. The fourth part provides key applications of nonlinear microscopy to the biomedical area: neurobiology, immunology, tumor biology, developmental biology, dermatology, and cellular metabolism. There are also chapters on nonlinear molecular probes, cellular damage, and nanoprocessing.
