Book Synopsis Handbook of Infectious Disease Data Analysis by : Leonhard Held

Download or read book Handbook of Infectious Disease Data Analysis written by Leonhard Held. This book was released on 2019-11-07. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent years have seen an explosion in new kinds of data on infectious diseases, including data on social contacts, whole genome sequences of pathogens, biomarkers for susceptibility to infection, serological panel data, and surveillance data. The Handbook of Infectious Disease Data Analysis provides an overview of many key statistical methods that have been developed in response to such new data streams and the associated ability to address key scientific and epidemiological questions. A unique feature of the Handbook is the wide range of topics covered. Key features Contributors include many leading researchers in the field Divided into four main sections: Basic concepts, Analysis of Outbreak Data, Analysis of Seroprevalence Data, Analysis of Surveillance Data Numerous case studies and examples throughout Provides both introductory material and key reference material

Book Synopsis Analysis of Infectious Disease Data by : N.G. (La Trobe University) Becker

Download or read book Analysis of Infectious Disease Data written by N.G. (La Trobe University) Becker. This book was released on 2019-12-03. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book gives an up-to-date account of various approaches availablefor the analysis of infectious disease data. Most of the methods havebeen developed only recently, and for those based on particularlymodern mathematics, details of the computation are carefullyillustrated. Interpretation is discussed at some length and the emphasisthroughout is on making statistical inferences about epidemiologicallyimportant parameters.Niels G. Becker is Reader in Statistics at La Trobe University, Australia

Book Synopsis Statistical Handbook on Infectious Diseases by : Sarah Barbara Watstein

Download or read book Statistical Handbook on Infectious Diseases written by Sarah Barbara Watstein. This book was released on 2003-02-28. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This statistical handbook is designed to offer students, researchers, practitioners, and the general adult population a comprehensive statistical overview of the status of infectious disease worldwide. The availability of this information has increased dramatically on the Internet, yet the data are often too extensive, hard to find, or difficult to interpret. A carefully selected array of tables and charts present authoritative statistical information, placing valuable statistics into context with introductory text. Detailed source information in each table, figure, and chart allows the user to pursue further information and uncover the stories behind the numbers. The book concludes with a glossary of key terms, bibliography, guide to information sources available on the Internet, and a detailed index.

Book Synopsis Big Data and Analytics for Infectious Disease Research, Operations, and Policy by : National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine

Download or read book Big Data and Analytics for Infectious Disease Research, Operations, and Policy written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. This book was released on 2016-11-30. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the amount of data in the world exploding, big data could generate significant value in the field of infectious disease. The increased use of social media provides an opportunity to improve public health surveillance systems and to develop predictive models. Advances in machine learning and crowdsourcing may also offer the possibility to gather information about disease dynamics, such as contact patterns and the impact of the social environment. New, rapid, point-of-care diagnostics may make it possible to capture not only diagnostic information but also other potentially epidemiologically relevant information in real time. With a wide range of data available for analysis, decision-making and policy-making processes could be improved. While there are many opportunities for big data to be used for infectious disease research, operations, and policy, many challenges remain before it is possible to capture the full potential of big data. In order to explore some of the opportunities and issues associated with the scientific, policy, and operational aspects of big data in relation to microbial threats and public health, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine convened a workshop in May 2016. Participants discussed a range of topics including preventing, detecting, and responding to infectious disease threats using big data and related analytics; varieties of data (including demographic, geospatial, behavioral, syndromic, and laboratory) and their broader applications; means to improve their collection, processing, utility, and validation; and approaches that can be learned from other sectors to inform big data strategies for infectious disease research, operations, and policy. This publication summarizes the presentations and discussions from the workshop.
