Book Synopsis Geology and Sedimentology of the Korean Peninsula by : Sung Kwun Chough

Download or read book Geology and Sedimentology of the Korean Peninsula written by Sung Kwun Chough. This book was released on 2012-12-31. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by one of Korea's most respected earth scientists, Geology and Sedimentology of the Korean Peninsula analyzes sedimentary facies, basin evolution, and sequence stratigraphy to provide answers to depositional processes and environmental changes through the Earth's history, including tectonic events, climate changes, and sea-level fluctuations. This is one of the first books covering the geology of the Korean peninsula. It offers an in-depth exploration of this region, which also allows comparison with sedimentary basins around the world. This is an important book for students, researchers, and professionals working in the geography of East Asia. The study of sedimentary basins can help advance basic understanding of how the Earth's crust developed, as well as offer insights into the influence of environmental and climate change. Sedimentary basins are also of interest due to their importance in the exploration and recovery of natural resources, including oil and gas, water, and industrial minerals. - Provides fundamental information on the geology of East Asia - Serves as a guide for integrated sedimentary basin analysis, providing a detailed aid for comparative research - Contains over 200 figures to illustrate the analysis

Download or read book Marine Geology of Korean Seas written by Sung Kwun Chough. This book was released on 2000-03-07. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tremendous progress has been made in the geological understanding of the Korean seas with the advances in sophisticated exploration techniques, specifically in the areas of marine geophysics, sedimentology, geochemistry, and palaeoceanography, since Marine Geology of Korean Seas was first published in 1983. This book gives a comprehensive overview of the marine geology of these unique seas, including physiography, sedimentary facies and depositional processes of surface sediments, sequence stratigraphy, geologic structures, and basin evolution. In this edition, new results and interpretations have been incorporated that help to formulate geological models on the evolution of the Korean seas in relation to the adjacent continents.

Book Synopsis Geology of Korea by : Ryong Jun Paek

Download or read book Geology of Korea written by Ryong Jun Paek. This book was released on 1993. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Korea has long been well-known to the world for her scenic beauty and rich natural resources. According to the historical records, geological studies started in the Korean Peninsula about 1,000 years ago in close connection with mining work. The materials left over from those days provided the basis for the development of geology in modem Korea which was started towards the close of the 19th century. However, when our country was liberated in 1945, we had only a few geologic maps drawn on a scale of 1 to 50,000, some data of survey and study and a few technicians who would undertake geological development. The great leader Comrade Kim II Sung, deeply concerned about this situation, saw to it that geo logical faculties were established in several universities in addition to a geological college and that a geologic map of the northern half of the Korean Peninsula on a scale of 1 to 200:000 was completed in 1962. Later, he also ensured that the geological quadrangle survey of 1:50,000 in scale and the survey of magnetic, gravitational and other geophysical fields were completed. At the same time in order to solve the scientific and theoretical problems regarding various geological phenomena, he established specialized research institutes in the Academy of Sciences, universities and production establishments for the prosecution of studies in all sectors of geology. As a result, the entire geological structure of Korea has been clarified systematically.
