Book Synopsis Further Insights into Oscillation Theory by : Nikolai Verichev

Download or read book Further Insights into Oscillation Theory written by Nikolai Verichev. This book was released on 2021-07-27. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is written for students of universities and postgraduate students specializing in the field of nonlinear dynamics, as well as specialists in various fields of mechanical engineering. It is devoted to the development of original methods, and outlines the results of analytical studies of dynamical chaos, synchronization, and dynamic structures in lattices of coupled rotators. It presents its findings within the context of the phase space of models and by involving methods of the qualitative theory of differential equations, the theory of bifurcations, and qualitative numerical methods.

Book Synopsis Essays in the History of Mathematics by : Arthur Schlissel

Download or read book Essays in the History of Mathematics written by Arthur Schlissel. This book was released on 1984. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The papers in this volume represent the talks given at the special session on the history of mathematics held at the annual meeting of the American Mathematical Society, San Francisco, California, January 7-11, 1981. The invited speakers were researchers of mathematics who spoke about some historical aspect of their particular area of interest. Thus, the presented papers were views of subjects through the eyes of those who helped shape, develop, contribute to them."--Introduction.

Book Synopsis On Some Aspects of Oscillation Theory and Geometry by : Bruno Bianchini

Download or read book On Some Aspects of Oscillation Theory and Geometry written by Bruno Bianchini. This book was released on 2013-08-23. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this paper is to analyze some of the relationships between oscillation theory for linear ordinary differential equations on the real line (shortly, ODE) and the geometry of complete Riemannian manifolds. With this motivation the authors prove some new results in both directions, ranging from oscillation and nonoscillation conditions for ODE's that improve on classical criteria, to estimates in the spectral theory of some geometric differential operator on Riemannian manifolds with related topological and geometric applications. To keep their investigation basically self-contained, the authors also collect some, more or less known, material which often appears in the literature in various forms and for which they give, in some instances, new proofs according to their specific point of view.

Book Synopsis Ordinary Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems by : Gerald Teschl

Download or read book Ordinary Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems written by Gerald Teschl. This book was released on 2024-01-12. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a self-contained introduction to ordinary differential equations and dynamical systems suitable for beginning graduate students. The first part begins with some simple examples of explicitly solvable equations and a first glance at qualitative methods. Then the fundamental results concerning the initial value problem are proved: existence, uniqueness, extensibility, dependence on initial conditions. Furthermore, linear equations are considered, including the Floquet theorem, and some perturbation results. As somewhat independent topics, the Frobenius method for linear equations in the complex domain is established and Sturm–Liouville boundary value problems, including oscillation theory, are investigated. The second part introduces the concept of a dynamical system. The Poincaré–Bendixson theorem is proved, and several examples of planar systems from classical mechanics, ecology, and electrical engineering are investigated. Moreover, attractors, Hamiltonian systems, the KAM theorem, and periodic solutions are discussed. Finally, stability is studied, including the stable manifold and the Hartman–Grobman theorem for both continuous and discrete systems. The third part introduces chaos, beginning with the basics for iterated interval maps and ending with the Smale–Birkhoff theorem and the Melnikov method for homoclinic orbits. The text contains almost three hundred exercises. Additionally, the use of mathematical software systems is incorporated throughout, showing how they can help in the study of differential equations.
