Book Synopsis Taxonomy and Ecology of Indian Fungi by : K. G. Mukerji

Download or read book Taxonomy and Ecology of Indian Fungi written by K. G. Mukerji. This book was released on 2010. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fungal world embodies diversified groups which colonize, multiply and survive in nature on many macro- and micro-ecological niches and substrates. Fungi are eukaryotic, achlorophyllous, filamentous or unicellular living organisms which are ubiquitous and cosmopolitan in distribution. Of the estimated 1.5 million fungal species, more than 98,000 fungal species have been described. Approximately 28,000 fungal species are reported from India. The fungi play an important role in biodegradation, recycling of organic matter, pharmaceutical industries, agriculture, medicine, industry, bioremediation, waste management and other activities. In India hardly we have database but for few a books on Indian fungi, compiled from time to time by some mycologists. The present book includes 16 chapters contributed by eminent mycologists. Chapters include data on diversity, taxonomy, ecology and application of Helicosporous fungi, genus Spegazzinia, Rusts and Smuts, Chaetomiaceae, Macrophomina, Rhizoctonia, Russula, wild edible fungi, poisonous mushrooms, insect fungi and other related aspects. This book will be very useful and a valuable addition to the existing literature on the same subject.

Book Synopsis Frontiers of Fungal Diversity in India by : Govind P. Rao

Download or read book Frontiers of Fungal Diversity in India written by Govind P. Rao. This book was released on 2003. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The publication of this volume is purposeful in bringing together the information available till date on various aspects of fungal diversity in Indian sub-continent. The Indian sub-continent is characterized with diverse topography, climatic conditions and turn over of green vegetation all the year round in its one or the other parts and correspondingly this sub-continent is adorned with immense fungal diversity. This compilation focuses light on the diversity and bioremediation, biosynthesis of gold nanoparticles employing fungal organisms, biotechnological and molecular approaches in characterization of fungal diversity, biological control, new approaches on fungal diversity including heavy metal toxicities and resistance in fungi, alkaloid biosynthesis and complexone siderophores as iron transport compounds in some group of fungal organisms. An account is also presented on fungal cellulases in novel industrial application, aflatoxin contamination, toxicosis and preventive measures. A major part of this book is devoted to discuss the recent trends and current status of diversity of fungal forms or groups thereof including thermophilic fungi, keratinolytic fungi, rust fungi, agaricales, acellular slime fungi, fleshy fungi, Alternaria species associated with cucurbitaceous vegetables and fungal diversity in forest ecosystems. A great deal of morphotaxonomic diversity is presented including coelomycetes, loculoascomycetes and certain individual fungal genera viz., Phoma, Ravenalia, Vermiculariopsiella, Phaeoramularia, Gonatophragmium, Stenella, Corynespora, Colletotrichum and Ceratocytis species. Habitat diversity has also been discussed with reference to indoor and outdoor environments. Some chapters have also been devoted to discuss the biodiversity of fungal forms as biocontrol agents and their commercial application in agriculture and human life.
