Book Synopsis Fundamentals of the Theory of Metals by : A. A. Abrikosov

Download or read book Fundamentals of the Theory of Metals written by A. A. Abrikosov. This book was released on 2017-10-18. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive primer by a Nobel Physicist covers the electronic spectra of metals, electrical and thermal conductivities, galvanomagnetic and thermoelectrical phenomena, the behavior of metals in high-frequency fields, sound absorption, and Fermi-liquid phenomena. Addressing in detail all aspects of the energy spectra of electrons in metals and the theory of superconductivity, it continues to be a valuable resource for the field almost thirty years after its initial publication. Targeted at undergraduate students majoring in physics as well as graduate and postgraduate students, research workers, and teachers, this is an essential reference on the topic of electromagnetism and superconductivity in metals. No special knowledge of metals beyond a course in general physics is needed, although the author does presume a knowledge of quantum mechanics and quantum statistics.

Book Synopsis Fundamentals of the Theory of Metals by : Alekseĭ Alekseevich Abrikosov

Download or read book Fundamentals of the Theory of Metals written by Alekseĭ Alekseevich Abrikosov. This book was released on 1988-01-01. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ``Fundamentals of the Theory of Metals'' has grown out of courses and lectures given by the author over a period of years. Part I is devoted to normal metals and is basically a thoroughly revised version of the author's book ``An Introduction to the Theory of Normal Metals'', originally published in Russian in 1972. It covers the electronic spectra of metals, electrical and thermal conductivities, galvanomagnetic and thermoelectrical phenomena, the behaviour of metals in high-frequency fields, sound absorption and Fermi-liquid phenomena. Part I also deals with the present-day concept of the energy spectra of electrons in metals and with methods that make it possible to study the behaviour of metals in dc and ac fields. Part II is concerned with the theory of superconductivity and offers a detailed description of two fundamental methods: the microscopic theory based on the Bogoliubov method and the Ginzburg-Landau theory, which allows the description of the behaviour of superconductors close to the critical temperature. ``Fundamentals of the Theory of Metals'' is intended for undergraduate students majoring in physics and also for graduate and postgraduate students, research workers and teachers. The presentation presumes a knowledge of quantum mechanics and quantum statistics, but no special knowledge of metals that goes beyond the course of general physics is needed.

Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Creep in Metals and Alloys by : Michael E. Kassner

Download or read book Fundamentals of Creep in Metals and Alloys written by Michael E. Kassner. This book was released on 2004-04-06. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: * Numerous line drawings with consistent format and units allow easy comparison of the behavior of a very wide range of materials * Transmission electron micrographs provide a direct insight in the basic microstructure of metals deforming at high temperatures * Extensive literature review of over 1000 references provide an excellent reference document, and a very balanced discussionUnderstanding the strength of materials at a range of temperatures is critically important to a huge number of researchers and practitioners from a wide range of fields and industry sectors including metallurgists, industrial designers, aerospace R&D personnel, and structural engineers. The most up-to date and comprehensive book in the field, Fundamentals of Creep in Metals and Alloys discusses the fundamentals of time-dependent plasticity or creep plasticity in metals, alloys and metallic compounds. This is the first book of its kind that provides broad coverage of a range of materials not just a sub-group such as metallic compounds, superalloys or crystals. As such it presents the most balanced view of creep for all materials scientists. The theory of all of these phenomena are extensively reviewed and analysed in view of an extensive bibliography that includes the most recent publications in the field. All sections of the book have undergone extensive peer review and therefore the reader can be sure they have access to the most up-to-date research, fully interrogated, from the world's leading investigators.· Numerous line drawings with consistent format and units allow easy comparison of the behavior of a very wide range of materials· Transmission electron micrographs provide a direct insight in the basic microstructure of metals deforming at high temperatures· Extensive literature review of over 1000 references provide an excellent reference document, and a very balanced discussion

Book Synopsis Fundamentals Of Materials Modelling For Metals Processing Technologies: Theories And Applications by : Jianguo Lin

Download or read book Fundamentals Of Materials Modelling For Metals Processing Technologies: Theories And Applications written by Jianguo Lin. This book was released on 2015-03-24. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive introduction to the unique theory developed over years of research on materials and process modelling and its application in metal forming technologies. It starts with the introduction of fundamental theories on the mechanics of materials, computational mechanics and the formulation of unified constitutive equations. Particular attention is paid to elastic-plastic formulations for cold metal forming and unified elastic-viscoplastic constitutive equations for warm/hot metals processing. Damage in metal forming and numerical techniques to solve and determine the unified constitutive equations are also detailed. Examples are given for the application of the unified theories to solve practical problems encountered in metal forming processes. This is particularly useful to predict microstructure evolution in warm/hot metal forming processes. Crystal plasticity theories and modelling techniques with their applications in micro-forming are also introduced in the book. The book is self-contained and unified in presentation. The explanations are highlighted to capture the interest of curious readers and complete enough to provide the necessary background material to further explore/develop new theories and applications.
