Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Tactical Command and Control, A Soviet View, 1977 This book brings to light Soviet general theoretical principles for tactical command and control, and indicates the place of the theory of control in the overall system of military theoretical knowledge and its relationships to cybernetics and other sciences. At the same time, the book makes practical recommendations on implementing the main functions of command and control of subunits by Soviet commanders and staffs in various types of combat operations with modern technical control equipment. The book was intended for Soviet officers and generals of the Ground Forces, those studying at military educational institutions of various levels, reserve officers and students in civilian institutions of higher learning, and those studying command and control questions in the system of non-uniformed-service training.
