In May 2012, the U.S. Department of Agriculture began using new planning regulations, commonly called the 2012 planning rule, to guide collaborative and science-based revision of forest plans that promote the ecological integrity of national forests while considering social and economic sustainability. The forest plan provides guidance for project- and activity-level decisionmaking on the Forest for approximately the next 15 years
