Book excerpt: "The EIS identifies and evaluates six alternatives for operations, maintenance, and configuration of the CRS. After evaluating the potential effects of the six alternatives on flood risk management, water supply, hydropower generation, fish and wildlife, navigation, cultural resources, recreation and other environmental and socioeconomic resources, the co-lead agencies identified a Preferred Alternative that sought to achieve a reasonable balance of multiple river resource needs and co-lead agency mission requirements. The Preferred Alternative is comprised of a suite of operational and structural measures that allow us to meet the congressionally authorized purposes of the System, the Purpose and Need Statement and objectives of the EIS, including those to benefit species listed as threatened and endangered under the Endangered Species Act. Detailed descriptions of the alternatives are presented in Chapter 2 (No Action and Multi-objective Alternatives) and Chapter 7 (Preferred Alternative) of the EIS."--The Executive Summary, Page 6
