Book Synopsis A Brief History of Revival in New Zealand by : Jenny Sharkey

Download or read book A Brief History of Revival in New Zealand written by Jenny Sharkey. This book was released on 2016-12-18. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book outlines a brief timeline based history of Christian revival movements and outpourings in the nation of New Zealand. Being born again, being revived, is clearly on God's agenda for his people. He wants us to experience the wind of the Spirit bringing us into new life in his Kingdom. Revival is not a one off event for the church in a set era, it is a fundamental aspect of the Kingdom of God coming on earth in every era. Life in the Spirit through the power of resurrection that Jesus has made available to us through his own death and resurrection, by the loving grace of the Father-this is revival. This is being born again. The is the good news. Revival is for every generation, every day. New Zealand has an incredible history of revival. These stories are our testimony and - "the testimony about Jesus is essentially the prophetic spirit." (Revelation 19:10, The Voice Version). It is my understanding that our testimonies of Jesus moving among us in the past release the prophecy of what he can and will do among us in the future-and even greater things than these. So my prayer is that as you read about the wonderful things that have already happened in New Zealand-and maybe even where you live-you will have hope renewed for what he is about to release in our era for a new generation. May the ancient wells of revival be reopened that the water of life may flow across our free land!

Book Synopsis A Full-er Gospel?: Pentecostal Proclamation in New Zealand 1990-2008 by : Linda Flett

Download or read book A Full-er Gospel?: Pentecostal Proclamation in New Zealand 1990-2008 written by Linda Flett. This book was released on 2015. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book draws on the belief statements and official publications of Elim and AOG denominations in New Zealand from 1990 to 2008 in order to test the extent to which this conviction was adhered to. A statement that 'In order to reach New Zealand, our methods need to change but not our message', provides a framing device, inviting the reader to explore their responsiveness to aspects of social change within New Zealand before gauging interest in new methodologies known to have impacted Pentecostal churches in New Zealand during this period. Actual changes to evangelistic methodology and salvation terminology is presented from the findings of a quantitative study before the salvation message is re-examined. It will be evident that not only were new methodologies embraced but views on salvation broadened, becoming increasingly holistic, dynamic and relational.

Book Synopsis Encounters: The Creation of New Zealand by : Paul Moon

Download or read book Encounters: The Creation of New Zealand written by Paul Moon. This book was released on 2013-07-24. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Throughout its human history, New Zealand has been interpreted and experienced in often radically different ways. Each wave of arrivals to its shores has left its own set of views of New Zealand on the country – applying a new coat of mythology and understanding to the landscape, usually without fully removing the one that lies beneath it.' Encounters is the wide-ranging, audacious and gripping story of New Zealand's changing national identity, how it has emerged and evolved through generations. In this genre-busting book, historian Paul Moon delves into how the many and conflicting ideas about New Zealand came into being. Along the way, he explores forgotten crevices of the nation's character, and exposes some of the mythology of its past and present. These include, for example, the earliest Maori myths and the 'mock sacredness' of the All Blacks in the twenty-first century; the role of nostalgia in our national character, both Maori and Pakeha; whether the explorer Kupe existed; the appeal of the Speight's 'Southern Man'; and ruminations on New Zealand art and landscape. What results is an absorbing piece of scholarship, an imaginative and exuberant epic that will challenge preconceptions about what it means to be a New Zealander, and how our country is understood. Lyrical, breathtaking and provocative, and illustrated with artworks throughout, Encounters offers an extraordinary insight into the beginnings of our country.
